Biodegradable magnesium is a highly desired material for fracture fixation implants because of its good mechanical properties and ability to completely dissolve in the body over time, eliminating the need for a secondary surgery to remove the implant. Despite extensive research on these materials, there remains a dearth of information regarding critical factors that affect implant performance in clinical applications, such as the pH and mechanical loading conditions. We developed a measurement system with implantable strain, temperature, pH and motion sensors to characterize magnesium and titanium plates, fixating bilateral zygomatic arch osteotomies in three Swiss alpine sheep for eight weeks. pH 1-2 mm above titanium plates was 6.6 ± 0.4, while for magnesium plates it was slightly elevated to 7.4 ± 0.8. Strains on magnesium plates were higher than on titanium plates, possibly due to the lower Young's modulus of magnesium. One magnesium plate experienced excessive loading, which led to plate failure within 31 h. This is, to our knowledge, the first strain, temperature, and pH data recorded for magnesium implants used for fracture fixation. These results provide insight into magnesium degradation and its influence on the environment, and may help to improve material and implant design for future clinical applications.

Silver nanowire (Ag NW)-based elastic conductors have been considered a promising candidate for key stretchable electrodes in wearable devices. However, the weak interface interaction of Ag NWs and elastic substrates leads to poor durability of electronic devices. For everyday usage, an additional self-healing ability is required to resist scratching and damage.

Photophysical properties of condensed systems generally originate from collective contributions of all components in their stochastically fluctuated structures and are strongly influenced under strain of chromophores. To precisely identify how the stochastically fluctuated monomers synergistically manipulate the properties, we propose a statistic strategy over sufficient ab initio molecular dynamics (AIMD) samplings and for the first time uncover that synergistic oscillatory twisting (SOT) of neighboring under-strain monomers manipulates the bifunction of rubrene crystal.  The under-strain trunk SOT can regulate both singlet fission (SF) and triplet-triplet annihilation (TTA), enabling their coexistence and dominance switching by dynamically modulating the matching of excitation energies.

Silver chalcogenides exhibit exceptional transport properties but face structural instability at high temperatures, limiting their practical applications. Using AgTe as a model, it is confirm that silver whisker growth above the phase transition renders AgTe unsuitable for thermoelectric applications. Here, the whisker growth mechanism is investigated and propose an inhibition strategy, overcoming a major obstacle in using silver chalcogenides.

Flexible wearable sensors with bimodal functionality offer substantial value for human health monitoring, as relying on a single indicator is insufficient for capturing comprehensive physiological information. However, bimodal sensors face multiple challenges in practical applications, including mutual interference between various modalities, and integration of excellent mechanical properties, interfacial adhesion, environmental adaptability and biocompatibility. Herein, the multifunctional hydrogel, synthesized through radical grafting and supramolecular self-crosslinking reactions, exhibits excellent thermal sensitivity (TCR = -1.

To investigate the bacterial community structure and physicochemical characteristics of different types of Daqu in the Binzhou region, this study employed traditional pure culture methods, high-throughput sequencing technology, and conventional physicochemical assays for analysis. The research results indicate that Enterococcus faecium and Bacillus licheniformis emerged as the main LAB and Bacillus species in Daqu from Binzhou region, respectively. In addition, high-throughput sequencing revealed significant differences in bacterial community structure between the two types of Daqu (P < 0.
