Objective: Interoception plays an important role in psychological functioning and mental and physical health. Recent studies have highlighted the need to distinguish between different aspects of interoception in self-report measures, including subjective interoceptive accuracy and attention. However, there is currently no questionnaire available in Chinese to measure either of these aspects, especially in patients with chronic pain conditions. This paper presents a Chinese translation of the Interoceptive Accuracy Scale (IAS; Murphy et al., 2020).

Methods: In three studies (N = 1166), we examined the factor structure and improved dimensionality of the Chinese IAS using factor analysis and item response theory models, compared its criterion validity in respondents with and without chronic pain, and examined its construct (convergent and discriminant) validity using network analysis approach.

Results: We demonstrated that the Chinese IAS is essentially unidimensional and developed a refined short form (IAS-SF) with improved unidimensionality. Both the Chinese IAS and IAS-SF showed comparable criterion validity in respondents with and without chronic pain, and both showed acceptable construct validity.

Conclusion: Overall, the Chinese IAS and Chinese IAS-SF will be useful tools for researchers and clinicians interested in interoceptive processes in Chinese populations or cross-cultural settings, especially in pain research.

Healthy Lifestyle Care vs Guideline-Based Care for Low Back Pain: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

JAMA Netw Open

January 2025

University Centre for Rural Health, School of Health Sciences, University of Sydney, Lismore, New South Wales, Australia.

Importance: An unhealthy lifestyle is believed to increase the development and persistence of low back pain, but there is uncertainty about whether integrating support for lifestyle risks in low back pain management improves patients' outcomes.

Objective: To assess the effectiveness of the Healthy Lifestyle Program (HeLP) compared with guideline-based care for low back pain disability.

Design, Setting, And Participants: This superiority, assessor-blinded randomized clinical trial was conducted in Australia from September 8, 2017, to December 30, 2020, among 346 participants who had activity-limiting chronic low back pain and at least 1 lifestyle risk (overweight, poor diet, physical inactivity, and/or smoking), referred from hospital, general practice, and community settings.

: Shoulder pain is a very common health issue among adults, being 8% due to calcifying tendinopathies (CT) of the shoulder. The evolutionary process of this lesion can be classified according to Bianchi Martinoli, depending on the ultrasound appearance. In 50% of cases, with first-line treatments, they resolve spontaneously.

Disaccharidase Enzyme Deficiency in Adult Patients with Gas and Bloating.

Clin Transl Gastroenterol

January 2025

Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Department of Internal Medicine, Wellstar Medical College of Georgia, Augusta University, Augusta, Georgia.

Introduction: Disaccharidases produced by the small intestinal brush border facilitate digestion of dietary carbohydrates. If deficient, they can cause carbohydrate malabsorption resulting in several abdominal symptoms. Our aim was to examine the prevalence of disaccharidase deficiency and correlate this with abdominal symptoms in adult patients with chronic abdominal symptoms.
