In this Letter, we demonstrate a single-stage erbium-doped fluoride fiber amplifier composed of two spliced large core fibers with respective diameters of 85 and 130 µm. An optical parametric generator (OPG) operating at a 5 kHz repetition rate, and providing ∼2 ns pulse duration, and an average output power of 500 mW at a wavelength of 2.8 µm was used as a seed source. This nanosecond amplifier configuration achieved an average output power of 10 W with a record pulse energy of 2 mJ, corresponding to 1 MW of output peak power. The maximum slope efficiency of this hybrid amplifier is 21% with respect to the total incident pump power at 940 nm. The presented master-oscillator power-amplifier (MOPA) configuration shows its potential for further power and energy scaling.

Nanosecond pulse power has many driving advantages in the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) application field, including better discharge effect, higher discharge efficiency, and lower electrode temperature. A high-voltage pulse voltage power supply (HV-PVPS) with a multi-turn ratio linear pulse transformer (PT) based on Marx circuit and PT topologies are suitable for most DBD plasma applications with fewer expansion modules, lower cost, smaller volume, and higher reliability comparing with the all-solid-state Marx nanosecond pulse power supply. However, during the process of DBD driven by an HV-PVPS based on Marx and PT topologies, the PT is prone to magnetic core saturation, which limits the application for DBD.

Introduction: Recent RANZCR studies have demonstrated gender disparity in research publication output of both radiation oncology (RO) trainees and specialists, favouring men. The purpose of this project was to examine success rates by gender of grant and prize (G&P) submissions to the RO Research Committee (RORC) to determine if anything needs to be done about the appraisal process to potentially address that disparity.
Methods: College records between 2011 and 2024 (where applicable) were searched by gender for one RO trainee, and two other research manuscript prizes, and two research grant rounds.
