We report on sensitive tunable laser absorption spectroscopy using a multipass gas cell and a solid-state photoacoustic optical power detector. Unlike photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS), this method readily allows a low gas pressure for high spectral selectivity and a free gas flow for continuous measurements. Our photoacoustic optical power detector has a large linear dynamic range and can be used at almost any optical wavelength, including the middle infrared and THz regions that are challenging to cover with traditional optical detectors. Furthermore, our approach allows for compensation of laser power drifts with a single detector. As a proof of concept, we have measured very weak CO absorption lines at 9.2 µm wavelength and achieved a normalized noise equivalent absorption (NNEA) of 2.35·10 WcmHz with a low-power quantum cascade laser. The absolute value of the gas absorption coefficient is obtained directly from the Beer-Lambert law, making the technique calibration-free.

Electronic devices cover a large subset of daily life gadgets which use power to run, hence increasing the load of the energy needs and indirectly impacting greenhouse gas emissions. Smart electrochromic windows provide a solution to this through remarkable energy saving by adjusting optical behavior depending on the environmental conditions. Since the electrochromic windows also need power to run, a self-powered electrochromic panel will be a better solution.

Alkali activation is a common method to prepare commercial porous carbon. In a mixed alkali activation system, the role of each individual alkali has generally been assumed to be the same as in a single alkali activation system, and the low corrosiveness of weak alkalis has mainly been emphasized. However, the intrinsic roles of the individual alkalis should be understood in detail and redefined to illuminate the activation pathways from the perspective of internal chemical reactions rather than corrosiveness.

Spiro architectures with π-conjugation have improved thermal stability and stronger photosensitivity, making them potentially useful for organic optoelectronic devices. Our recent work has demonstrated the synthetic chemistry of a novel thiophene oligomer combining 2,7-dihydrooxepine and dispiro structure and derived it into A-D-A-type compounds. The optical spectroscopy and electrochemical characteristics were investigated.

Objectives: Femtosecond laser image guided high precision trabeculotomy (FLigHT) is a novel open-angle glaucoma treatment. The procedure non-invasively creates aqueous humor (AH) drainage channel from the anterior chamber (AC) to Schlemm's canal (SC) through the trabecular meshwork (TM) to decrease intraocular pressure (IOP). The purpose of this study was to develop a 3D finite element model (FEM) of the FLigHT procedure and to simulate clinical results for different drainage channel cross-sectional areas.

This prospective cohort study is aimed to investigate circadian variations in corneal parameters, focusing on sleep-deprived subjects. Sixty-four healthy individuals (age range: 21-76 years) actively participated in this study, undergoing examinations at least five times within a 24-hour timeframe. The analysis encompassed keratometric parameters of the cornea's front (F) and back (B) surfaces, refractive power in flattest and steepest axes (K1, K2), astigmatism (Astig) and its axis (Axis), aspheric coefficient (Asph), corneal pachymetry values of thinnest corneal thickness (Pachy Min) and corneal thickness in the center of the pupil (Pachy Pupil), volume relative to the 3 and 10 mm corneal diagonal (Vol D3, Vol D10) and surface variance index (ISV).
