Fixed sleep schedules with an 8 h time in bed (TIB) are used to ensure participants are well-rested before laboratory studies. However, such schedules may lead to cumulative excess wakefulness in young individuals. Effects on older individuals are unknown.

Starch accumulation in plants provides carbon for nighttime use, for regrowth after periods of dormancy, and for times of stress. Both ɑ- and β-amylases (AMYs and BAMs, respectively) catalyze starch hydrolysis, but their functional roles are unclear. Moreover, the presence of catalytically inactive amylases that show starch excess phenotypes when deleted presents questions on how starch degradation is regulated.

Objective: Dimensionality reduction techniques aim to enhance the performance of machine learning (ML) models by reducing noise and mitigating overfitting. We sought to compare the effect of different dimensionality reduction methods for comorbidity features extracted from electronic health records (EHRs) on the performance of ML models for predicting the development of various sub-phenotypes in children with Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1).
Materials And Methods: EHR-derived data from pediatric subjects with a confirmed clinical diagnosis of NF1 were used to create 10 unique comorbidities code-derived feature sets by incorporating dimensionality reduction techniques using raw International Classification of Diseases codes, Clinical Classifications Software Refined, and Phecode mapping schemes.

Objective: Observational studies suggest that blood lipids are a risk factor for uterine fibroids (UFs) and that lipid-lowering drugs are beneficial for the treatment and prevention of UF; however, the conclusions are inconsistent. We aimed to determine the causal effects of lipids and lipid-lowering drugs on UFs using Mendelian randomization (MR).
Methods: Genetic variants from genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of lipid traits and variants in genes encoding lipid-lowering drug targets were extracted, and two independent UF GWAS were set as the outcome.

Background: An increase in the prevalence of lung cancer that is not smoking-related has been noticed in recent years. Unfortunately, these patients are not included in low dose computer tomography (LDCT) screening programs and are not actually considered in early diagnosis. Therefore, improved early diagnosis methods are urgently needed for non-smokers.
