The treatment of effluents from the pharmaceutical industry currently remains a major challenge due to their impact on the environment and public health along with the cost of treatments. Considering these issues, our work focused on the development of materials with effective adsorption properties to treat industrial effluents based on locally available and inexpensive clays and zeolite. Local Algerian kaolin (Djebel Debbagh), palygorskite (Ghoufi) and zeolite (Tinbdar) were treated thermally and chemically prior to synthesis into mesoporous materials of hexagonal structure using pluronic P123 as surfactant.

Experimental study of mono and hybrid nanofluids on square pyramid solar still.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

December 2024

Department of Mechanical Engineering, Government Engineering College, Valsad, 396001, Gujarat, India.

The lower productivity of square pyramid solar still is the prime impediment to its worldwide applicability. In the present study, efforts have been made to improve the productivity of square pyramid solar still using mono and hybrid nanofluid. The experiments were carried out with two similar square pyramid solar stills at a 1cm depth of basin fluid (saline water, mono, and hybrid nanofluid) under the climate of location (20.

Revealing the Overlooked Catalytic Ability of γ-AlO: Efficient Activation of Peroxymonosulfate for Enhanced Water Treatment.

Environ Sci Technol

December 2024

State Key Laboratory of Pollution Control and Resource Reuse, School of the Environment, Nanjing University, Nanjing 210023, China.

Activated alumina (γ-AlO) is one of the few nanomaterials manufactured at a ton-scale and successfully implemented in large-scale water treatment. Yet its role in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) has primarily been limited to functioning as an inert carrier due to its inherently nonredox nature. This study, for the first time, presents the highly efficient capability of γ-AlO to activate peroxymonosulfate (PMS) for selectively eliminating electron-rich organic pollutants in the presence of Cl.

Study on the Damage Mechanism of an H62-Cu/7075-Al Tribo-Pair Under the Influences of Current Direction and Density.

Materials (Basel)

November 2024

National United Engineering Laboratory for Advanced Bearing Tribology, Henan University of Science and Technology, Luoyang 471023, China.

Article Synopsis
  • * As current density increased from 0 A/mm to 79.61 A/mm, friction coefficients decreased, and the direction of the current affected the type of damage observed on the worn surfaces.
  • * For the 7075 Al-H62 Cu pair, mechanical wear dominated at low current densities, but electro-erosion became significant at higher densities, while the H62 Cu-7075 Al pair primarily experienced mechanical wear, resulting in a copper film on the aluminum surface.

Article Synopsis
  • Aptasensors detect biomolecules by transforming the binding of specific target molecules with aptamers into measurable signals, helping in rapid biomolecule identification.
  • The study compares different crosslinkers used for immobilizing aptamers, focusing on one homo-bifunctional and three hetero-bifunctional types, specifically for attaching the Ebola soluble Glycoprotein (sGP) binding DNA aptamer to surfaces.
  • Results indicate that using hetero-bifunctional crosslinkers leads to more consistent sensing responses and higher aptamer densities compared to homo-bifunctional crosslinkers, which produced inconsistent responses and lower attachment efficiency.
