A novel structural motif for luminescent chiral crystalline molecular rotors with chiroptical properties correlated with the rotational motion in crystalline media is presented. This scaffold incorporates bulky chiral caps consisting of a homochiral binaphthyl moiety with a triisopropylsilyl (TIPS) group into triaryltriazine, as confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis. Variable-temperature solid-state H NMR studies revealed a 4-fold rotation of the phenylenes occurred in the rotor crystal between 263 and 333 K, while a steric rotor analogue shows no rotational motion. Notably, a reduction in the dihedral angle of the binaphthyl moiety upon heating was observed in the chiral rotors, and a corresponding alteration of the circular dichroism (CD) signal was detected in the solid-state, while those of the steric rotors showed no alteration by the temperature change. We propose that the fast rotation of the phenyl rings affects the motion of neighboring isopropyl groups, leading to steric repulsion with the binaphthyl moieties and thereby inducing its conformational change. Furthermore, the chiral rotors exhibited circularly polarized phosphorescence in the solid-state at low temperature, originating from rotational displacement of the phenylene on triphenyltriazine during structural relaxation in the excited state. Meanwhile, the steric rotors showed significant circularly polarized fluorescence induced by the suppressed molecular motion via a sterically hindered lattice environment in the excited state. These results indicate that the bulky chiral cap introduced into the triaryltriazines, acting as a luminescent chiral crystalline molecular rotor, can be a useful scaffold for the modulation of solid-state chiroptical properties via molecular rotational motions.

ConspectusChiral organosilicon compounds bearing a Si-stereogenic center have attracted increasing attention in various scientific communities and appear to be a topic of high current relevance in modern organic chemistry, given their versatile utility as chiral building blocks, chiral reagents, chiral auxiliaries, and chiral catalysts. Historically, access to these non-natural Si-stereogenic silanes mainly relies on resolution, whereas their asymmetric synthetic methods dramatically lagged compared to their carbon counterparts. Over the past two decades, transition-metal-catalyzed desymmetrization of prochiral organosilanes has emerged as an effective tool for the synthesis of enantioenriched Si-stereogenic silanes.

Despite the growing importance of planar chiral macrocyclophanes owing to their unique properties in different areas of chemistry, methods that are effective in controlling their planar chirality are restricted to certain molecular scaffolds. Herein, we report the first Pd(0)-catalyzed enantioselective intermolecular C-H arylation that induces planar chirality by installing bulky aryl groups through dynamic kinetic resolution (DKR). A computer-assisted approach allowed a fine-tuning of the structure of the employed chiral bifunctional phosphine-carboxylate ligands to achieve high enantioselectivities.

Quaternary carbon centers are widespread structural motifs, thus representing extensive interest in organic synthesis. We describe here an efficient nickel-catalyzed intermolecular, -selective arylation of minimally functionalized alkenes with stable organoborons, affording a broad range of cyclic or acyclic quaternary carbon centers under mild conditions. The utilization of the diimine ligand is critical for high reactivity and chemoselectivity.

Building on our previous studies, which have demonstrated that homochiral propagating species-(*,*)-[MeGa(-OCH(Me)COR)]-were crucial for the heteroselectivity of [MeGa(-OCH(Me)COMe)] in the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of racemic lactide (-LA), we have investigated the effect of alkyl groups on the structure and catalytic properties of dialkylgallium alkoxides in the ROP of -LA. Therefore, we have isolated and characterized the -[RGa(-OCH(Me)COMe] (R = Et (), Pr () and -[RGa(-OCH(Me)CHN] (R = Et (), Pr ()) complexes, to demonstrate the effect of alkyl groups on the chiral recognition induced the formation of the respective homochiaral species-(*,*)-[RGa(-OCH(Me)COMe)] and (*,*)-[RGa(-OCH(Me)CHN]. Moreover, we have investigated the structure of (,)-[RGa(-OCH(Me)COMe] (R = Et ((,)-, R = Pr ((,)-,) and their catalytic activity in the ROP of -LA.

A series of tripodal (three-arm) lysine-based peptides were designed and synthesized and their self-assembly properties in aqueous solution and antimicrobial activity were investigated. We compare the behaviors of homochiral tripodal peptides (KKY)K and a homologue containing the bulky aromatic fluorenylmethoxycarbonyl (Fmoc) group Fmoc-(KKY)K, and heterochiral analogues containing k (d-Lys), (kkY)K and Fmoc-(kkY)K. The molecular conformation and self-assembly in aqueous solutions were probed using various spectroscopic techniques, along with small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and cryogenic-transmission electron microscopy (cryo-TEM).
