In 2021, for the first time, a legal framework organizing the care of children with a variation in genital development (VGD), sometimes referred to as "intersex children" or "children with differences in sex development" (DSD), was introduced in France (article L. 2131-6 of the Code of Public Health). It should be immediately apparent that the chosen term, "variation" rather than "anomalies" or "disorders" - which was previously used in the medical world - reflects a political will to renew both the way of thinking and the medical practices in this field. The aim of the new legal framework is to guarantee optimum care for children with VGD by requiring the systematic involvement of expert centers (to establish diagnoses and therapeutic proposals), providing the most comprehensive information possible to their families and seeking the minor's consent. Among the possible medical care options, the law explicitly mentions "therapeutic abstention," reflecting a paradigm shift aimed at curbing the too-frequent recourse to treatments whose sole objective is the conformation of the genitalia. An order was subsequently issued on 15 November 2022 to provide the necessary details for the implementation of the changes introduced by the law.

In 2002, in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy, a comprehensive strategic plan was developed with the aim of improving the integration and efficiency of the genetic services. Two decades later, this report aims to explore the current functioning of the regional network, with special focus on clinical genetics in the evolving scenarios. To this aim, we analyzed the activity data of the medical genetics services in the region, to identify and possibly improve currently open issues.

Introduction: We sought to explore the variability of antibody responses to multiple vaccines during early life in individual children, assess the trajectory of each child longitudinally, determine the associations of demographic variables and antibiotic exposures with vaccine-induced immunity, and link vaccine responsiveness to infection proneness.
Methods: In 357 prospectively-recruited children, age six through 36 months, antibody levels to 13 routine vaccine antigens were measured in sera at multiple time points and normalized to their respective protective thresholds to categorize children into four groups: very low, low, normal, and high vaccine responder. Demographic variables and frequency of antibiotic exposure data were collected.
Introduction: Pediatric anxiety is rapidly increasing, and in 2022, the US Preventive Services Task Force recommended universal anxiety screening using a validated tool for children 8-18 years.
Method: This evidence-based practice quality improvement initiative integrated an educational process, a validated anxiety screening tool, and a Caregiver Satisfaction Survey into all primary care wellness visits for patients aged 8-18 years.
Results: Significant increases in screening and referrals for mental healthcare were observed postinitiative implementation, especially in ages 8-11 years.
