Unlabelled: Here we comprehensively review the available knowledge on effects of different pretreatment technologies on microbial population and microbial dynamics in anaerobic digestion (AD) fed with different substrates and different operational parameters. To identify peer-reviewed studies published in English-language journals, a comprehensive search was performed across multiple electronic databases. The eligible studies were analyzed to extract data and information pertaining to the configuration of anaerobic reactors, operational parameters, and various pretreatment processes such as chemical, biological, enzymatic, thermal, microaerobic, and ultrasonic. The findings derived from this current review demonstrated that different chemical, biological, and physical pretreatment technologies improve the biomethane potential (BMP) and potentially affect the dominant bacteria and archaea. Moreover, although hydrogenotrophic methanogenesis are more observed due to resistance to extreme conditions, methane production follows both aceticlastic and hydrogenotrophic pathways in AD assisted with different pretreatment process. and phyla of bacteria were the dominant hydrolytic bacteria due to synergetic effects of different pretreatment process on solubilization and bioavailability of recalcitrant substrates. In summary, a holistic understanding on bacteria and archaea communities, along with the mechanisms of the dominant microorganisms leads to enhanced stability and overall performance of anaerobic digestion (AD) processes.

Background: Vascular inflammation persists in temporal artery biopsy (TAB) of giant cell arteritis (GCA) patients even after prolonged glucocorticoid (GC) therapy. We aimed to evaluate the histological impact of adding tocilizumab (TCZ) to GCs.
Methods: We enrolled all consecutive GCA patients with an inflammed TAB at diagnosis who were treated with TCZ and GCs for ≥6 months and followed from December 2017 to December 2023.

Background/aim: This study aimed to investigate the safety and efficacy of deferoxamine (DFO) pretreated feline adipose tissue derived mesenchymal stem cells (fATMSCs) for the treatment of inflammatory disorders.
Materials And Methods: fATMSCs were isolated from feline adipose tissue and characterized using flow cytometry for surface marker expression and differentiation assays for adipogenic, osteogenic, and chondrogenic lineages. Different concentrations of DFO were used to evaluate its impact on fATMSC activity.

Lignocellulosic biomass (LCB) is expected to play a critical role in achieving the goal of biomass-to-bioenergy conversion because of its wide distribution and low price. Biomass fermentation is a promising method for the sustainable generation of biohydrogen (bioH) from the renewable feedstock. Due to the inherent resistant structure of biomass, LCB needs to be pretreated to improve its digestibility and utilization.

Extracting The extraction of cellulose and lignin from biomass is essential for the development of sustainable bio-based materials. This study examines the effects of physical pretreatment techniques-ultrasound (US), pulsed electric fields (PEF), and high-voltage electrical discharges (HVED)-on the efficiency of alkali treatment for cellulose and lignin extraction from walnut shells. The primary objective was to enhance extraction yields and improve extract quality while evaluating the effectiveness of these methods.

Nanoplastics (NPs) are growing concerns for health and the environment, being widely distributed across marine, freshwater, air, and biological systems. Analyzing NPs in real environmental samples requires pretreatment, which has traditionally been complex and often leads to underestimation in actual samples, creating a gap between real-world conditions and research findings. In this study, we propose using anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) membrane as a direct Raman substrate for particles on a filter, achieving complete recovery during separation and concentration while simplifying the pretreatment stages.
