Stroke is the second leading cause of death and the third-leading cause of disability in the world. The skeletal muscles play a key role in disability following stroke. Animal models are valuable tools for studying the underlying mechanisms of and potential treatments for intervertebral disc diseases. In this review, we discuss the advantages and limitations of animal models of disc diseases, focusing on lumbar spinal stenosis, disc herniation, and degeneration, as well as future research directions. The advantages of animal models are that they enable controlled experiments, long-term monitoring to study the natural history of the disease, and the testing of potential treatments.

Volatile compounds have a deep influence on the quality and application of the medicinal herb ; however, little is known about the effect of UV-B radiation on volatile metabolites. We herein investigated the effects of UV-B exposure on the volatile compounds and transcriptome of to assess the potential for improving its quality and medicinal characteristics. Out of 733 volatiles obtained, a total of 133 differentially expressed metabolites (DEMs) were identified by metabolome analysis.
