The aim of this study was to clarify whether the increased vascular tone in spontaneous hypertension of rats is due to a change of the calcium-sensitivity of the contractile proteins themselves. In skinned rat tail artery rings from SHRSP and WKY rats the calcium-requirement for half maximal activation (3.6 X 10(-6)M Ca++ for both rat strains) as well as relaxation half times (1.45 +/- 0.43 min, SHRSP and 1.63 +/- 0.48 min, WKY) were found to be identical. The extent of myosin phosphorylation in the contracted and in the relaxed state did not differ between SHRSP and WKY. It is concluded that changes at the level of the contractile proteins are not involved in the increased vascular tone of SHRSP essential hypertension.

Background: Transabdominal pre-peritoneal inguinal hernia repair using the da Vinci Single-Port robot (SP-TAPP) is currently performed in few centers. We aimed to define the learning curve for SP-TAPP by analyzing operative times.

Methods: The operative times of 122 SP-TAPP performed between 2019 and 2024 were retrospectively analyzed.

Prophylactic and therapeutic effects of EsV3 on atherosclerotic lesions in ApoE mice.

BMC Cardiovasc Disord

Department of Pharmacology, School of Basic Medicine, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Wuhan, 430030, China.

Background: Atherosclerosis (AS) is a major contributor to vascular disorders and represents a significant risk to human health. Currently, first-line pharmacotherapies are associated with substantial side effects, and the development of atherosclerosis is closely linked to dietary factors. This study evaluated the effects of a dietary supplement, EsV3, on AS in apolipoprotein E (ApoE) model mice.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) poses a significant health risk due to its silent nature and high mortality upon rupture. The Fib-4 index, initially designed for liver fibrosis assessment, presents potential beyond its scope. This study aims to investigate the association of FIB-4 with aneurysm size and mortality risk, exploring its utility as a risk predictor for enhanced clinical management.

Increased thrombotic events that occur in up to one-third of patients with COVID-19 are predominantly pulmonary emboli (PE), which are associated with higher severity and increased mortality. Acute PE should therefore be one of the main differential diagnoses among patients with hemodynamic instability. Early treatment of such a condition with systemic thrombolysis remains the first line of treatment especially in patients with COVID-19, which hinders further invasive intervention.

[Value of comprehensive evaluation of bladder structure and function in children by multi-modal ultrasound].

Department of Urology, Henan Joint International Pediatric Urodynamic Laboratory, the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, Zhengzhou450002, China.

To comprehensively evaluate the structure and function of the bladder wall in children using multi-modal ultrasound (MMU). A total of 110 children without urinary symptoms admitted to the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from January 2022 to June 2023 were included prospectively. MMU was performed and the vesical volume (VV), bladder wall thickness (BWT), shear wave velocity (SWV) of the anterior wall, resistance index (RI) and vascularization index (VI) were measured in the filled and emptied bladder respectively, and the ultrasound bladder compliance (UBC) was also calculated.
