Gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS) is an advanced technique used for detecting trace compounds, due to its non-destructive, straightforward, and rapid analytical capabilities. However, the application of GC-IMS in human disease screening is barely reported. This review summarizes the application and related parameters of GC-IMS in human disease diagnosis. GC-IMS detects volatile organic compounds in human breath, feces, urine, bile, It can be applied to diagnose diseases, such as respiratory diseases, cancer, enteropathy, Alzheimer's disease, bacterial infection, and metabolic diseases. Several potential disease markers have been identified by GC-IMS, including ethanal (COVID-19), 2-heptanone (lung cancer) and 3-pentanone (pulmonary cryptococcosis). In conclusion, GC-IMS offers a non-invasive approach to monitor and diagnose human diseases with broad applications.

More than 500 centres in China hold over 300,000 individuals in what has been described by the United Nations as unethical and ineffective compulsory treatment and rehabilitation centres. Individuals in these centres face widespread human rights abuses, including lack of due process, forced labour, physical and sexual violence, and denial of healthcare. Because of the vulnerability of individuals in detention settings to abuse in research trials, ethical guidelines have required research to pose no more than minimal risk, to address the process of incarceration, and the health or well-being of detained individuals.

In September 2023, the UK Health Security Agency's (UKHSA) South West Health Protection Team received notification of patients with perichondritis. All five cases had attended the same cosmetic piercing studio and a multi-disciplinary outbreak control investigation was subsequently initiated. An additional five cases attending the same studio were found.

Background: We aimed to identify the central lifestyle, the most impactful among lifestyle factor clusters; the central health outcome, the most impactful among health outcome clusters; and the bridge lifestyle, the most strongly connected to health outcome clusters, across 29 countries to optimise resource allocation for local holistic health improvements.
Methods: From July 2020 to August 2021, we surveyed 16 461 adults across 29 countries who self-reported changes in 18 lifestyle factors and 13 health outcomes due to the pandemic. Three networks were generated by network analysis for each country: lifestyle, health outcome, and bridge networks.
