Published: December 2024

Objective: To evaluate the frequency and the clinical relevance of thyroid disease in antineutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA)-associated vasculitis (AAV) patients.

Methods: A total of 305 AAV patients admitted to the Second Affiliated Hospital of Chongqing Medical University between October 2010 and December 2023 were analyzed. Demographic, clinical, and laboratory data were compared between AAV patients with and without thyroid disease. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses were conducted to identify factors associated with thyroid disease in AAV patients.

Results: Among the 305 AAV patients, 52 (17.0%) had concurrent thyroid disease. In univariate analysis, gender, coronary artery disease, renal involvement, anti-Ro/SSA antibodies, anti-Ro52 antibodies, anti-thyroglobulin antibodies (TgAb), and anti-thyroid peroxidase antibodies (TPOAb) exhibited significant differences between AAV patients with and without thyroid disease (P < 0.05). Multivariate analysis revealed that female gender (odds ratio (OR) = 2.423, 95% confidence interval (95% CI) 1.241, 4.729; P = 0.009), concurrent coronary artery disease (OR = 2.998, 95% CI 1.280, 7.019; P = 0.011), and positive anti-Ro/SSA antibodies (OR = 4.697, 95% CI 1.960, 11.257; P = 0.001) were associated with thyroid disease in AAV patients.

Conclusion: AAV patients have a higher incidence of thyroid disease. Regular monitoring of thyroid function is advised for AAV patients, particularly for women, those with coronary artery disease, and those who are positive for anti-Ro/SSA antibodies. Key Points • AAV patients have a higher incidence of thyroid disease. • The potential clinical relevance of AAV patients with thyroid disease was explored. • Regular monitoring of thyroid function is advised for AAV patients.

Correlation between Autoimmune Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and Infection: A Case-Control Study.

Middle East J Dig Dis

October 2024

Geriatric Health Research Center, Department of Physiology, School of Medicine, Birjand University of Medical Sciences, Birjand, Iran.

Background: Among environmental factors, infectious agents, including , can act as triggers for autoimmune thyroid diseases. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the correlation between autoimmune Hashimoto's thyroiditis with infection.

Methods: The participants in this case-control study were 74 individuals 17-62 years who were divided into two groups, including 38 diagnosed Hashimoto's thyroiditis patients from an outpatient clinic of endocrinology and 36 apparently healthy individuals that were selected from family members of cases group age-matched and sex-matched.

Medication related osteonecrosis (MRONJ) in the management of CTIBL in breast and prostate cancer patients. Joint report by SIPMO AND SIOMMMS.

J Bone Oncol

February 2025

Unit of Oral Medicine and Dentistry for Frail Patients, Department of Rehabilitation, Fragility, and Continuity of Care, Regional Center for Research and Care of MRONJ, University Hospital Palermo, Palermo, PA, Italy.

Background: Low-doses of bone modifying agents (LD-BMAs) compared to those used to treat bone metastases are used in breast or prostate cancer patients on adjuvant endocrine therapy to prevent Cancer Treatment Induced Bone Loss (CTIBL). Their use is associated with an increased risk of developing Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ). However, there is not clarity about strategies aimed to minimize the MRONJ risk in cancer patients at different conditions as low- vs high-doses of BMA.

A hyalinizing trabecular tumor (HTT), characterized by a trabecular growth pattern and notable hyalinization within the trabeculae, occurs at a rate of ~1%. As patients with HTT may be asymptomatic, accurate diagnosis is a challenge. Due to its resemblance to other tumors, such as papillary thyroid carcinoma and medullary thyroid carcinoma, a precise diagnosis necessitates both pathological and molecular examinations.

Objective: Extant imaging methods used for the proper identification of the parathyroid glands to prevent post-operative hypothyroidism associated with the resection of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) are limited by factors such as low specificity, high cost, and technical complexity. This study, therefore, sought to investigate the efficacy of the immunocolloidal gold strip method combined with nanocarbon negative imaging tracing technology for parathyroid gland imaging during radical resection of DTC in elderly patients.

Methods: A total of 100 elderly patients with DTC were enrolled and randomly divided into two groups: the control group and the observation group.

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the efficacy and safety of PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors in treating small-cell lung cancer (SCLC) and determine the role of PD-1 monoclonal antibodies in improving patient outcomes.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 37 SCLC patients who received PD-1 or PD-L1 inhibitors along with chemotherapy at the First Hospital of Lanzhou University between June 2018 and June 2023. Treatment effectiveness was measured by overall response rate (ORR), disease control rate (DCR), overall survival (OS), and progression-free survival (PFS), utilizing chi-square and T-tests, along with Kaplan-Meier and log-rank analyses.
