We have used spin-echo small-angle neutron scattering (SESANS) to probe the hierarchy of structures present in polymer-carbon nanocomposites, with length scales spanning over three orders of magnitude, from 10 nm to 16 μm. The data processing and reduction show a unified approach across two SESANS instruments (TU Delft and Larmor at the ISIS neutron source) and yield consistent data that are able to be modelled using well-established hierarchical models in freely available software such as SasView. Using this approach, we are able to extend the measured length scales by over an order of magnitude compared to traditional scattering methods. This yields information about the structure in the bulk that is inaccessible with conventional scattering techniques (SANS/SAXS) and points to a way for interrogating and investigating polymer nanocomposites routinely across multiple length scales.

This study was to investigate the efficacy of ultrasound-guided genicular nerve block for patients who underwent knee arthroscopy. Patients were randomized into two groups: 1. nerve block group: ultrasound-guided genicular nerve block (superomedial, superolateral and inferomedial genicular nerve, 2-ml 0.

Scleral-fixated intraocular lens (SFIOL) is a widely used technique for IOL implantation in patients where capsular support is insufficient. Most surgeons have shifted away from sutured to sutureless SFIOL techniques where haptics of a multifocal IOL are inserted in scleral tunnels/flaps. Large-scale publications have shown wide variation in the refractive status of eyes post-SFIOL even in the best of the hands.

Using an interatomic potential that can capture the tetrahedral configuration of water molecules (HO) in ice without the need to explicitly track the motion of the O and H atoms, coarse-grained (CG) atomistic simulations are performed here to characterize the structures, energy, cohesive strengths, and fracture resistance of the grain boundaries (GBs) in polycrystalline ice resulting from water freezing. Taking the symmetric tilt grain boundaries (STGBs) with a tilting axis of ⟨0001⟩ as an example, several main findings from our simulations are (i) the GB energy, , exhibits a strong dependence on the GB misorientation angle, θ. The classical Read-Shockley model only predicts the - θ relation reasonably well when θ < 20° or θ > 45° but fails when 20° < θ < 45°; (ii) two "valleys" appear in the -θ landscape.

Aim: This study is aims to compare the clinical efficacy and safety of percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) and percutaneous pedicle screw fixation (PPSF) in managing osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs) among middle-aged and elderly individuals.
Methods: A total of 142 patients aged 55-65 years were selected retrospectively from the Department of Orthopedics of our hospital from June 2021 to June 2023 and classified into PKP (n = 68) and PPSF (n = 74) groups. General data of patients were collected, and related perioperative indicators, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores, Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), Activities of Daily Living (ADL) scores, changes in Cobb angle of the fractured vertebrae, vertebral compression rate, as well as postoperative complications were compared between the two groups.

Introduction: The results of patients at one hospital who were judged eligible for conservative care of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) are examined in this research. Optimizing patient care and management tactics requires an understanding of the mortality trends and causes of death within this group.
Methodology: Sunderland Royal Hospital carried out a single-center retrospective analysis between May 2018 and January 2024.
