The folate requirements for beef cattle have not been established. Therefore, we investigated whether rumen-unprotected folic acid supplementation during the fattening period affects carcass traits and nutritional metabolism in Japanese Black beef cattle. Eighteen Beef cattle aged 16 months were divided into three groups: control, low folic acid supplementation (0.43 g DM/day), and high folic acid supplementation (0.86 g DM/day). Treatment was administered for 12 months. Folic acid supplementation dose-dependently increased serum folate levels, suggesting that supplemental folic acid can be absorbed into the body. Folic acid supplementation dose-dependently decreased serum vitamin B levels, while plasma total homocysteine and methylmalonic acid levels-markers for deficiency of folate and/or vitamin B-were unaffected. Thus, the treatment did not clearly affect the nutritional status of these vitamins. Supplementation increased body weight, with no negative effects on other carcass traits. The levels of insulin-like growth factor 1, retinol, albumin, and some amino acids in serum or plasma were affected by supplementation. These results suggest that rumen-unprotected folic acid supplementation during the fattening period could increase the body weight of Japanese Black beef cattle and the mechanism of action may be related to growth-related hormones and/or the metabolism of some nutrients, including folate.

Erastin, as an effective ferroptosis inducer, has received extensive attention in anti-tumor research. To develop an oral nanocarrier for high efficient loading hydrophobic erastin, here we prepared a fluoro-liposome (FA-3 F-LS) by the self-assembly of the folic acid modified fluorinated amphiphiles-FA-3 F conjugates. The hydrophobic component of three perfluorooctyl chains endows the FA-3 F-LSs with high stability to resist the harsh gastrointestinal tract condition.

The key to the treatment of choroidal melanoma (CM) is to improve diagnostic efficiency and find a high-performance treatment to replace the traditional treatment of radiotherapy and enucleation. In this paper, for the first time, long afterglow luminescence material was applied to the integrated diagnosis and treatment of eyes, with its unique advantages in photoluminescence and afterglow luminescence to solve the bottleneck problem of real-time irradiation required for photothermal and photodynamic therapy (PTT and PDT). Based on the excellent photoluminescence and afterglow properties of ZnGaGeO:CrYbEr (ZGGO) nanoparticles, a nanoplatform ZGGO@Au@UiO-66@ZnPc:Dox-FA (GAUZD-FA) for NIR-Ⅱ imaging and triple-synergistic therapy (PTT, PDT and sustained-release drug) was constructed.

Hyperthermia has emerged as a popular treatment option due to its high efficacy and seamless integration with other therapeutic approaches. To enhance treatment outcomes, hydrogels loaded with photothermal agents and activated by near-infrared (NIR) light for localized tumor therapy have attracted considerable attention. This approach minimizes drug dosage and mitigates the adverse effects of systemic drug delivery on healthy tissues.

Following myocardial infarction (MI), the accumulation of CD86-positive macrophages in the ischemic injury zone leads to secondary myocardial damage. Precise pharmacological intervention targeting this process remains challenging. This study engineered a nanotherapeutic delivery system with CD86-positive macrophage-specific targeting and ultrasound-responsive release capabilities.

Background: Increasing evidence suggests that SARS-CoV-2 infection may lead to early onset and aggravation of pre-existing vascular dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase (Mthfr) is a critical enzyme in folate metabolism, also required for optimal brain function. Mthfr deficient mice display cognitive impairments and neurovascular deficits and polymorphisms in MTHFR increases dementia risk.
