In this paper, we introduce an approach to derive a lower bound for the entropy production rate of a subsystem by utilizing the Cauchy-Schwarz inequality. It extends to establishing comprehensive upper and lower bounds for the efficiency of two subsystems. These bounds are applicable to a wide range of Markovian stochastic processes, which enhances the accuracy in depicting the range of energy conversion efficiency between subsystems. Empirical validation is conducted using a two-quantum-dot system model, which serves to confirm the effectiveness of our inequality in refining the boundaries of efficiency.

Pediatric Cardiovascular Multiscale Modeling using a Functional Mock-up Interface.

Cardiovasc Eng Technol

January 2025

School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems, Drexel University, 3141 Chestnut Street, Rm. 718, Philadelphia, PA, 19104, USA.

Purpose: Computational models of the cardiovascular system continue to increase in complexity. As more elements of the physiology are captured in multiscale models, there is a need to efficiently integrate subsystems. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the effectiveness of a coupling methodology, called functional mock-up interface (FMI), as applied to multiscale cardiovascular modeling.

Particularly when they occur at high speeds, vehicle accidents represent a serious threat to human beings and due to this fact vehicle accident is considered as worlds high priority risk. Several research have been done to enhance the crashworthiness of bumper subsystems. With an emphasis on the major crash management system components which are also known as crash box and bumper beam, this study explores ways to improve the crashworthiness of vehicles.

Karst small towns globally face challenges due to limited disaster-resilient resources, making it difficult to handle increasingly severe disaster environments. Improving the efficiency of disaster-resilient resource utilization and maintaining a tight balance state of disaster-resilient resources (TBS) are crucial for enhancing disaster adaptability and resilience. This study used urban and disaster data from a representative karst region in China (2017-2021) to conduct a quantitative analysis of TBS in karst small towns, exploring the mechanisms and interactions within this state and identifying obstacle factors.

Energy-filtered quantum states are promising candidates for efficiently simulating thermal states. We explore a protocol designed to transition a product state into an eigenstate located in the middle of the spectrum; this is achieved by gradually reducing its energy variance, which allows us to comprehensively understand the crossover phenomenon and the subsequent convergence toward thermal behavior. We introduce and discuss three energy-filtering regimes (short, medium, and long), and we interpret them as stages of thermalization.

The smart city, characterized by its complexity and expansiveness, entails intricate collaborative governance processes involving a multitude of elements. We have established a smart city collaborative governance system and formulated a system dynamics model based on the interaction dynamics among the internal elements of the collaborative governance subsystems: the subject, object, and environment. Policy adjustment variables were carefully selected to simulate six policy combination scenarios, illustrating the developmental trajectory of Dongguan City's smart city collaborative governance system from 2015 to 2030, within the context of various policy paradigms.
