The report presents first high performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) based method for the determination of plasma 2-(3-hydroxy-5-phosphonooxymethyl-2-methyl-4-pyridyl)-1,3-thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid (HPPTCA), an adduct of cysteine and active form of vitamin B6 pyridoxal 5'-phosphate. The assay employs 4-deoxypyridoxine (4-DPD) as an internal standard. Sample preparation procedure primarily involves acetonitrile (ACN) extraction of HPPTCA from plasma proteins, sample deproteinization by ultrafiltration, and dilution of ultrafiltrate with mobile phase prior to chromatographic analysis. The chromatographic separations of HPPTCA and 4-DPD are achieved within 6 min at 20 °C on X-Bridge Glycan BEH Amide (100 × 2.1 mm, 2.5 μm) column using gradient elution. The eluent consists of 0.1% formic acid in a mixture of solvent A (water and ACN (95:5, v: v)) and solvent B (water and ACN (5:95, v: v)) delivered at a flow rate of 0.3 mL/min. The assay linearity was observed within 0.25-10 µmol/L in plasma. The limit of quantification was found to be 0.25 µmol/L. The method was successfully applied to plasma samples delivered by apparently healthy donors showing that the HPLC-MS/MS assay is suitable for human plasma screening. The presence of HPPTCA was confirmed in eleven of fifteen study samples. The HPPTCA concentration ranged from 0.55 to 8.39 µmol/L.

Micromycetes from the genus Alternaria are commonly found in plant food raw materials, and their produced emerging mycotoxins (EMT) pose a risk to human health. Based on polyphase taxonomy, we studied the species composition of the Alternaria spp. population in samples of Russian grain and berries; non-toxinogenic species of Alternaria of the Infectoriae section and toxinogenic species of the Alternaria section were found.

This study focused on analyzing the spatial and vertical distributions of 28 per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), which comprised five precursors and three alternatives, in the water columns of the regional seas surrounding South Korea, such as the Yellow Sea (YS, Y1-Y10), East China Sea (ECS, EC1-EC6), South Sea (SS, S1-S5), and East Sea (ES, E1-E7). The concentrations of these PFASs detected in 204 seawater samples varied from below the limit of detection (

A reliable and sensitive analytical platform is proposed for the assessment of pig exposure to mycotoxins through the consumption of commercial feed. A total of 48 naturally contaminated feed and 55 urine samples collected from eight Spanish farms were analyzed using a fast and simple methodology based on solid-liquid extraction (SLE) or liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) and dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME). High-performance liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-MS/MS) was used for the targeted analysis of 27 mycotoxins from different families in both matrices achieving limits of quantification in a range of 0.

A novel biomimetic molecular imprinted polymer chip with fluorescence (FL) and structural (STR) states, inspired by color patterns of chameleon skin, is fabricated for detecting diethylstilbestrol (DES). The chip features a regularly structured, non-closed-packed (NCP) colloidal photonic crystal (CPC) lattice made monodisperse MIP spheres containing fluorescence poly ionic liquid (FPIL) pigments. The FL color originates from FPIL pigments and is further enhanced by the Purcell effect, while the STR color results from the periodic arrangement of the NCP CPC structure.

Chlorinated coumarins, which are as cytotoxic as highly toxic halobenzoquinones toward CHO-K1 cells, have recently been identified as disinfection byproducts in drinking water disinfection processes. Therefore, detecting coumarins in water samples collected at various stages from drinking water treatment plants helps assess the formation of chlorinated coumarins in drinking water. Hence, a simple, rapid, accurate, and sensitive method for quantifying coumarins in water samples is required.
