Introduction: To update the global burden of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) using data from the Global Burden of Disease 2021.
Methods: Data from Global Burden of Disease 2021 were analyzed to assess the IBD burden.
Results: In 2021, there were 375,140 new cases and 3.83 million total cases of IBD. Elderly onset IBD accounted for 11% of incidences. 167 countries increased IBD incidence rate, with rates rising in female patients (APC: +0.06%) and the elderly (APC: +0.14%) but stable in male patients and the overall population.
Discussion: Although the global burden of IBD has decreased overall, it has increased in female patients and the elderly.

Air pollution is a leading contributor to the global disease burden. However, the complex nature of the chemicals to which humans are exposed through inhalation has obscured the identification of the key compounds responsible for diseases. Here, we develop a network topology-based framework to identify key toxic compounds in the airborne chemical exposome.

Unlabelled: Subsequent fracture rates and associated mortality were compared before and after the introduction of fracture liaison service (FLS). In 100,198 women and men, FLS was associated with 13% and 10% lower risk of subsequent fragility fractures and 18% and 15% lower mortality. The study suggests that FLS may prevent fractures.

Objective: We sought to assess the impact of dietary risk on the worldwide burden of stroke, focusing specifically on ischemic stroke.
Methods: Utilizing information from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 (GBD2021), we evaluated the age-standardized death rate (ASDR), the age-standardized disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) rate, and the age, sex, and regional distribution of the estimated annual percentage change (EAPC) of the stroke burden linked to dietary risk from 1990 to 2021.
Results: The global overall ASDR and the age-standardized DALY rate per 100,000 population for stroke linked to dietary risk from 1990 to 2021 exhibited a declining trend [EAPC = -1.

Background: The life expectancy (LE) index reflects health changes in society, highlighting trends in health quality and quantity. This study focused on analysing the impact of the top 10 causes of death on the global increase in LE in 2019.
Methods: Data on the top 10 causes of death in 2019 were obtained from the Global Burden of Disease website and a period life table was used to assess how eliminating these causes would impact LE.
