This multicenter study evaluated the efficacy and safety of a novel cranial remolding helmet (baby band2), which is completely custom-made based on the shape of an infant's cranium. The study included 224 full-term infants from moderate to very severe positional plagiocephaly in Japan. Cranial geometry was assessed before and after helmet therapy using a three-dimensional scanner, and changes in the cranial vault asymmetry index (CVAI) were analyzed. The CVAI improved significantly in all patients, with the most significant improvement observed in the most severely affected group [very severe group: -9.1, severe group: -6.6, moderate group: -4.4 (mean values), < 0.001]. The group that started therapy before the age of 7 months showed greater improvement compared to those who started therapy at the age of 7 months or older; however, both groups demonstrated significant improvement (<7 months group: -6.6, ≥7 months group: -4.4 (mean values), < 0.001). No significant differences were observed in therapy efficacy between the centers ( = 0.402) and sex ( = 0.131). During the study period, helmet therapy did not lead to head circumference stunting, and the incidence of redness with baby band2 was five patients (2.2%). This study demonstrated that baby band2 is effective and safe for the therapy of positional plagiocephaly.

Objective: Mixed-reality (MR) applications provide opportunities for technical rehearsal, education, and estimation of surgical performance without the risk of patient harm. In this study, the authors provide a structured literature review on the current state of MR applications and their effects on neurosurgery training. They also introduce an MR prototype for neurosurgical spine training.

Hajdu-Cheney syndrome (HCS), caused by a heterozygous gain of function variant of the NOTCH2 gene, is a rare skeletal dysplasia. Although the main presentation is acro-osteolysis, osteoporosis, and facial dysmorphism, having a wide range of clinical manifestations creates diagnostic difficulties. Here, a 15-year-old male patient with HCS who had no complaints until this age except for two short bone fractures and one vertebral collapse fracture due to a fall was reported.

Humans rarely speak without producing co-speech gestures of the hands, head, and other parts of the body. Co-speech gestures are also highly restricted in how they are timed with speech, typically synchronizing with prosodically-prominent syllables. What functional principles underlie this relationship? Here, we examine how the production of co-speech manual gestures influences spatiotemporal patterns of the oral articulators during speech production.

The social environment has long been recognized to play an important role in substance use, which is often modeled in rodents using operant conditioning. However, most operant chambers only accommodate one rodent at a time. We present PeerPub - a unique social operant chamber.

Tooth development is a complex process of the orderly interaction between epithelium originating from the ectoderm and mesenchyme derived from cranial neural crest cells, which not only depends on cell genes regulatory network but also involves crosstalk between cells and their surrounding environment. Even within the same type of cellular populations, obvious heterogeneity may be observed. Single-cell RNA sequencing is a novel technology aimed at sequencing the transcriptome of individual cell.
