Polyetheretherketone (PEEK) has been broadly used in orthopedic implant devices. Nevertheless, the bioinert tended to cause implant loosening and bacterial infection in orthopedic and trauma surgery. In this study, a drug-laden chitosan coating (CS) was constructed and deposited on the porous surface of PEEK (CG-SPEEK) internal fixation plate for multi-functionalization. The physical characterizations of CG-SPEEK were further investigated in the morphology, hydrophilicity, surface energy, roughness, drug release and mechanical properties. CG-SPEEK exhibited excellent antibacterial capabilities in both Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli compared to other groups. Besides, BMSCs cells showed better biocompatibility and certain osteogenic activity on composite coating in vitro. Furthermore, CG-SPEEK promoted bone regeneration to some extent and express certain effect against infections in vivo study. Overall, combining personalized design and modification is an innovative strategy to realized functionalization, which may have a strong potential in clinical application.

Background: Increased attention allocation to negative-valenced information and decreased attention allocation to positive-valenced information have been implicated in the etiology and maintenance of depression. The Matrix task, a free-viewing eye-tracking attention assessment task, has shown corroborating results, coupled with adequate reliability. Yet, replication efforts are still needed.

The aim was to study the independent risk factors of internal fixation failure in proximal femoral anti-rotation intramedullary nailing for intertrochanteric femur fracture, and to build a nomogram prediction model accordingly. Clinical data of patients with intertrochanteric femoral rotor fractures admitted to the First People's Hospital of Longquanyi District from January 2018 to January 2023 were retrospectively collected. The occurrence of spiral blade cut out, internal fixation breakage, peri-internal fixation fracture, hip internal rotation deformity, and fracture nonunion within 1 year after surgery were included in the internal fixation failure group, and the rest were included in the internal fixation success group.

Modern techniques of rib fracture fixation surgery follow the AO principles of fracture reduction, fixation, and appropriate soft tissue handling. Fixation techniques can be performed using anatomic reduction and rigid fixation, or bridge plate fixation for comminuted fractures. Anatomic and nonanatomic plates can be used, although titanium precontoured locking plates are the most commonly used.

Background: The standard approach for addressing intra-articular calcaneal fractures involves open reduction with plate and screw fixation, with ongoing discourse regarding the application of grafts to address bone gaps. The aim of this study is the temporal comparison of the radiological and functional outcomes in patients undergoing surgery for intra-articular calcaneal fractures, with a specific focus on the use of bone grafts.
Methods: Thirty patients, comprising 13 with iliac grafts and 17 without, were enrolled in the study.
