Understanding the genetic basis of drought tolerance in safflower (Carthamus tinctorius L.) is essential for developing resilient varieties. In this study, we performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) using DArTseq markers to identify marker-trait associations (MTAs) linked to drought tolerance across 90 globally diverse safflower genotypes.

Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is prevalent in adults and is characterized by the accumulation of mature B cells in the blood, bone marrow, lymph nodes, and spleens. Recent progress in therapy and the introduction of targeted treatments [inhibitors of Bruton's tyrosine kinase (BTKi) or inhibitor of anti-apoptotic B-cell lymphoma-2 (Bcl-2i) protein (venetoclax)] in place of chemoimmunotherapy have significantly improved the outcomes of patients with CLL. These advancements have shifted the importance of traditional predictive markers, leading to a greater focus on resistance genes and reducing the significance of mutations, such as TP53 and del(17p).

Application of a near real-time technique for the assessment of atmospheric arsenic and metals emissions from a copper smelter in an urban area of SW Europe.

Environ Pollut

December 2024

Associate Unit CSIC-University of Huelva "Atmospheric Pollution", Center for Research in Sustainable Chemistry - CIQSO, University of Huelva, E21007 Huelva, Spain; Department of Earth Sciences, Faculty of Experimental Sciences, University of Huelva, Campus El Carmen s/n, E21007, Huelva, Spain.

Emissions of metals and metalloids as a result of industrial processes, entail a great risk to human health. A high time resolution study on arsenic levels in PM in the city of Huelva (SW Spain) was carried out between September 2021 and September 2022. Hourly data obtained with a near real-time technique based on X-ray fluorescence were inter-compared with other offline analytical instrumentation.

The PA-X host shutoff site 100 V exerts a contrary effect on viral fitness of the highly pathogenic H7N9 influenza A virus in mice and chickens.

Virulence

December 2025

Key Laboratory of Avian Bioproducts Development, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, Yangzhou, China.

Several viruses, including influenza A virus (IAV), encode viral factors to hijack cellular RNA biogenesis processes to direct the degradation of host mRNAs, termed "host shutoff." Host shutoff enables viruses to simultaneously reduce antiviral responses and provides preferential access for viral mRNAs to cellular translation machinery. IAV PA-X is one of these factors that selectively shuts off the global host genes.

Application of zeolites for efficient tannery wastewater remediation.

Environ Sci Pollut Res Int

December 2024

Stazione Sperimentale Per L'industria Delle Pelli E Delle Materie Concianti S.R.L., 80143, Napoli, Italy.

Leather manufacturing is the process of converting raw animal hides or skins into finished leather. The complex industrial procedures result in a tanning effluent composed of chemical compounds with potentially hazardous impacts on humans and ecosystems. Among the traditional and efficient wastewater treatments, adsorption is an effective and well-known approach, able to manage a wide range of contaminants from wastewater.
