Metals interact with nutrients in plants grown on spent engine oil (SEO) soils; thus, relationship of metals and nutrients in several morphological parts of economical plants cultivated on SEO soils using a 3 × 4 factorial and a totally randomized design is documented. The polluted-vegetated soils were SEO treated at 0, 2, 4, 8% v/w and planted and separately. Before treatment, SEO tested positive for Cd, Zn, Pb, Cr, Cu, Fe and Ni, while at treatment, non-vegetated soils accumulated Pb, Cu, Zn, Ni, Fe. The on SEO had more Cd among plants. ANOVA indicated significant ( < 0.05) relationship between metals, SEO and treated soils. A Post hoc indicated Fe and Pb levels differed significantly across SEO vegetated soils, while PCA suggests treated plant roots and leaves accumulated more of the toxic metals. These plants parts should not be consumed from SEO-polluted areas.

This study aimed to identify radiotherapy dosimetric parameters related to local failure (LF)-free survival (LFFS) in patients with lung and liver oligometastases from colorectal cancer treated with stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). We analyzed 75 oligometastatic lesions in 55 patients treated with SBRT between January 2014 and December 2021. There was no constraint or intentional increase in maximum dose.

Several potent carcinogenic nitrosamines, including N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) and N-nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA), induce micronuclei in the micronucleated hepatocyte (MNHEP) assay but not in the micronucleated reticulocyte (MNRET) assay. However, the MNHEP assay is not as frequently used as the MNRET assay for evaluating in vivo genotoxicity. The present study evaluated MN formation in the liver of Big Blue transgenic rats exposed to four small-molecule nitrosamines, NDMA, N-nitrosodiisopropylamine (NDIPA), N-nitrosoethylisoporpylamine (NEIPA), and N-nitrosomethylphenylamine (NMPA), using a repeat-dose protocol typically used for in vivo mutagenicity studies.

In patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) whose symptoms improve with acid-suppression therapy, on-demand treatment could constitute maintenance therapy. This study investigated the comparative efficacy and safety of on-demand tegoprazan and proton-pump inhibitor (PPI) therapy in GERD. From six university hospitals in the Daejeon-Chungcheong region, we enrolled patients with GERD who had experienced symptomatic improvement with acid-suppressive therapy and, using a randomization table, randomly allocated these participants to two groups: to receive either tegoprazan 50 mg + esomeprazole placebo or tegoprazan placebo + esomeprazole 20 mg, respectively.

In elderly women, hormonal changes lead to elevated body fat content, which results in elevated levels of vascular inflammatory factors, thereby increasing the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) associated with endothelial dysfunction. Regular physical exercises tend to keep these in check and are protective to the body. Aerobic exercise has been reported to improve CVD in obese elderly women; in this regard, aquatic exercises have been demonstrated to be more efficient in energy metabolism than land-based exercise.

The overexpression of glutathione (GSH) within the tumor microenvironment has long been considered as the major obstacle for reactive oxygen species (ROS)-based antitumor therapies. To address this challenge, a selenite (SeO) and ferric ion co-doped hydroxyapatite (SF-HAP) nanohybrid was synthesized, which is then introduced into poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) to prepare porous scaffold by selective laser sintering to continuously release Fe and SeO ions. Of great significance is the released SeO catabolize GSH to generate superoxide anion (O) rather than directly eliminating GSH, thereby reversing the obstacle posed by its overexpression and achieving a "waste-to-treasure" transformation.
