Background And Objectives: Long-term oral anticoagulation (OAC) following successful catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation (AF) remains controversial. Prospective data are missing. The ODIn-AF study aimed to evaluate the effect of OAC on the incidence of silent cerebral embolic events and clinically relevant cardioembolic events in patients at intermediate to high risk for embolic events, free from AF after pulmonary vein isolation (PVI).

Importance: Previous studies evaluating the association of patient sex with clinical outcomes using conventional thermal ablative modalities for atrial fibrillation (AF) such as radiofrequency or cryoablation are controversial due to mixed results. Pulsed field ablation (PFA) is a novel AF ablation energy modality that has demonstrated preferential myocardial tissue ablation with a unique safety profile.

Objective: To compare sex differences in patients undergoing PFA for AF in the Multinational Survey on the Methods, Efficacy, and Safety on the Postapproval Clinical Use of Pulsed Field Ablation (MANIFEST-PF) registry.

Epsilon waves: Milestones in the discovery and progress.

Ann Noninvasive Electrocardiol

November 2018

Rhythmology Unit, Cardiology Institute, Pitie Salpetriere University Hospital, Paris, France.

The Epsilon wave was first identified in 1977. Four decades of progress help people to better understand its pathological electrogenesis and diagnostic value. Currently, the Epsilon wave is on the list of the 2010 Task Force recommendations for the diagnosis of arrhythmogenic right ventricular dysplasia (ARVD).

Current controversies in determining the main mechanisms of atrial fibrillation.

J Intern Med

May 2016

Department of Cardiac Electrophysiology, Heart Center, University of Leipzig, Leipzig, Germany.

Despite considerable basic research into the mechanisms of atrial fibrillation (AF), not much progress has been made in the prognosis of patients with AF. With the exception of anticoagulant therapy, current treatments for AF still do not improve major cardiovascular outcomes. This may be due partly to the diverse aetiology of AF with increasingly more factors found to contribute to the arrhythmia.
