AI Article Synopsis

  • A gram-negative saprophytic bacterium found in tropical and subtropical regions can cause severe infections, especially when it enters the bloodstream through open wounds.
  • A case study from a hospital in North East Uttar Pradesh highlights a neonate who was successfully treated for this infection after timely microbiological diagnosis and antimicrobial therapy.
  • The importance of including this bacterium in the differential diagnosis of sepsis is emphasized to improve chances of effective treatment and cure.

Article Abstract

is a gram-negative saprophytic bacterium causing human infection in tropical and subtropical countries. Such infections are uncommon but cause high mortality when the bacterium enters the bloodstream through an open wound. We present a case of infection isolated from a blood culture sample in a neonate identified at a tertiary care teaching hospital in North East Uttar Pradesh. Timely diagnosis by microbiological methods and antimicrobial treatment led to a successful cure for this life-threatening infection. Thus, such bacteria should be included in the routine spectrum for differential diagnosis of sepsis, to provide a chance of cure.

Left-sided gallbladder (LSGB) is a rare anatomical variation where the gallbladder is to the left of the falciform ligament and ligamentum teres. Most commonly, it is discovered as an incidental finding at the time of operation (typically for cholecystectomy). We describe a case of left-sided gallbladder in a 71-year-old female.

Blue carbon refers to organic carbon sequestered by oceanic and coastal ecosystems. This stock has gained global attention as a high organic carbon repository relative to other ecosystems. Within blue carbon ecosystems, tidally influenced wetlands alone store a disproportionately higher amount of organic carbon than other blue carbon systems.

Background Incidental gallbladder carcinoma (IGBC) remains a significant clinical challenge, with its diagnosis often delayed due to the asymptomatic nature of the disease and its incidental discovery post-cholecystectomy. This study's aim is to calculate incidence in a high-risk, region-specific (North Indian) population and also to provide novel insights into clinical presentation as well as macroscopic and histopathological features of IGBC. Material and methods This retrospective observational study spanned four years (August 2013 to July 2016) and included a total of 3096 cases.
