We analyze the elastic properties, structural effects, and low-energy physics of a sheared nanoribbon placed on top of graphene, which creates a gradually changing moiré pattern. By means of a classical elastic model we derive the strains in the ribbon and we obtain its electronic energy spectrum with a scaled tight-binding model. The size of the sheared region is determined by the balance between elastic and van der Waals energy, and different regimes are identified. Near the clamped edge, moderate strains and small twist angles lead to one-dimensional channels. Near the sheared edge, a long region behaves like magic angle twisted bilayer graphene (TBG), showing a sharp peak in the density of states, mostly isolated from the rest of the spectrum. We also calculate the band topology along the ribbon and we find that it is stable for large intervals of strains and twist angles. Together with the experimental observations, these results show that the sheared nanoribbon geometry is ideal for exploring superconductivity and correlated phases in TBG in the very sought-after regime of ultralow twist angle disorder.

A possibility of unprecedented architecture may be opened up by combining both vertical and in-plane heterostructures. It is fascinating to discover that the interlayer stress transfer, interlayer binding energy, and interlayer shear stress of bi-layer Gr/hBN with CNTs heterostructures greatly increase (more than 2 times) with increase the numbers of CNTs and both saturate at the numbers of CNTs = 3, but it causes only 10.92% decrease in failure strain.

Multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are a desirable class of high aspect ratio nanomaterials (HARNs) owing to their extensive applications. Given their demand, the growing occupational and consumer exposure to these materials has warranted an extensive investigation into potential hazards they may pose towards human health. This study utilised both the in vitro mammalian cell gene mutation and the cytokinesis-blocked micronucleus (CBMN) assays to investigate genotoxicity in human lymphoblastoid (TK6) and 16HBE14o human lung epithelial cells, following exposure to NM-400 and NM-401 MWCNTs for 24 h.

This article investigates the convective thermal and solutal exchange from the active walls of a trapezium chamber which is filled with multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT)-silicon dioxide (SiO)-ethylene glycol-water hybrid nano-coolant. The hybrid nano-coolant exhibits non-Newtonian shear-thinning rheology and is modeled by the power-law viscosity as per an exploratory report. The convection is generated by both the thermal and solutal buoyancy forces in the presence of a magnetic field.

Inspired by the recently reported novel two-dimensional material BCP, we performed one-dimensional shearing along the zigzag direction to obtain four BCP nanoribbons with various edge atom combinations. An asymmetric hydrogen passivation scheme was employed to modulate the electronic properties and successfully open the band gap, especially the 2H-1H passivation with dihydrogenation and monohydrogenation at the top and bottom edges, respectively, achieving bipolar magnetic semiconductors with edge P-atoms contributing to the main magnetism. Furthermore, three crucial spin-polarized transmission spectra yielded a significant spin-dependent Seebeck effect (SDSE), displaying superior thermoelectric conversion capabilities by generating pure spin currents.
