High concentration Ca in karst soil is harmful to agriculture. Some dominant plants can adapt well to karst soil, but how Ca affect plant is unknown. is a Ca-tolerant fern and its dry rhizome is a common Chinese medicine of Miao nationality in Guizhou, China. This study analyzed the physiological and proteomic characteristics of the rhizome of . under calcium stress. Physiological results indicated that calcium stress may lead to osmotic stress. Proteomic results showed that 147 differentially expressed proteins (96 increased, 51decreased) were identified under calcium stress, and these proteins mainly involved in signal transduction, protein translation, material transport, antioxidant defense and secondary metabolism. This study will lay a foundation for studying the calcium adaptation mechanism of at the molecular level.

Role of P2X7 receptor in the progression and clinicopathological characteristics of gastric cancer.

Sci Rep

December 2024

Department of Gastroenterology, The Second Affiliated Hospital, Jiangxi Medical College, Nanchang University, Nanchang city, Jiangxi province, China.

P2X7 receptor (P2X7R) plays a role in regulating tumor progression, but it is unclear whether P2X7R affects the pathological characteristics of patients with gastric cancer and the activity of gastric cancer cells. Therefore, this study preliminarily investigated the relationship between P2X7R and clinicopathological features of patients with gastric cancer, and further explored the effect of P2X7R on the proliferation, migration and invasion of gastric cancer cells through functional experiments. The results showed that P2X7R was highly expressed in gastric cancer tissues and gastric cancer cells.

The mechanism(s) underlying gut microbial metabolite (GMM) contribution towards alcohol-mediated cardiovascular disease (CVD) is unknown. Herein we observe elevation in circulating phenylacetylglutamine (PAGln), a known CVD-associated GMM, in individuals living with alcohol use disorder. In a male murine binge-on-chronic alcohol model, we confirm gut microbial reorganization, elevation in PAGln levels, and the presence of cardiovascular pathophysiology.

pH-sensitive chitosan/sodium alginate/calcium chloride hydrogel beads for potential oral delivery of rice bran bioactive peptides.

Molecular Nutrition Branch, National Engineering Research Center of Rice and By-product Deep Processing/College of Food Science and Engineering, Central South University of Forestry and Technology, Changsha, Hunan 410004, China. Electronic address:

Although rice bran active peptide (RBAP) has potent antioxidant properties, its practical applications have been limited by its low bioavailability. In this study, we hypothesized that pH-responsive hydrogels prepared from the ionic gelation between chitosan and alginate could be a promising delivery system of short-chain peptides, like RBAP, for protecting them from chemical degradation during digestion and improving their functionality. The hydrogel beads retained RBAP in the gastric environment due to strong interactions between two biopolymers and RBAP, followed by a sustained release of more than 70 % peptide in the intestinal condition, thus improving its gastrointestinal stability.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. Due to the poor therapeutic efficacy of CRC treatments and poor prognosis of the disease, effective treatment strategies are urgently needed. As long-term proteotoxic stress is a major cause of cell death, agents that induce proteotoxic stress offer a promising strategy for cancer intervention.
