Environmental pollution, food safety, and medical diagnostics pose severe threats to human health, making the development of effective detection technologies crucial. Electrochemical sensors, as an efficient detection method, are extensively employed in detecting environmental pollutants, food additives, and biomolecules. Pd-M bimetallic materials, known for their excellent electrocatalytic performance, are extensively utilized as electrode modification materials. Although earlier reviews have covered the sensing applications of bimetallic materials, they have not targeted discussed Pd-based bimetallic materials. This paper systematically summarizes the preparation methods of Pd-M bimetallic materials, explores their structural and morphological regulation, and elaborates on their recent applications in pesticide detection, environmental pollutant detection, food additive detection, drug detection, and biosensing. It enumerates the detection performance of various Pd-M bimetallic material-modified electrochemical sensors for the aforementioned analytes in detail, including specific modification materials, linear range, detection limits, and sensitivity parameters.

Bimetallic Palladium-based catalysts as an alternative of Pt-free electrocatalysts play a vital role in electrocatalysis. The doping of transition metal (M) into the ultrathin Pd nanosheets is new promising strategy to regulate the reactivity and durability of surface Pd sites. In this work, an in-depth investigation of the origin oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) activity and stability over 2D ultrathin PdM bimetallenes is presented.

N-Ethylcarbazole (NEC), as a promising liquid organic hydrogen carrier (LOHC), can store and release hydrogen through a reversible catalytic hydrogenation and dehydrogenation reaction. In this paper, RuPd bimetallic nanocatalyst supported on MgAl-layered double hydroxide (RuPd/LDH) was prepared by ultrasonic-assisted reduction method, and its catalytic performance in NEC hydrogenation was also studied. Under the action of ultrasound, hydroxyl groups (-OH) on the surface of LDH support dissociated into highly reductive hydrogen radicals for the reduction of Ru and Pd to Ru and Pd.

It is important to develop cost-efficient electrocatalysts used in the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) for widespread applications in fuel cells. Palladium (Pd) is a promising catalyst, due to its more abundant reserves and lower price than platinum (Pt), and doping an earth-abundant 3-transition metal M into Pd to form Pd-M bimetallic alloys may not only further reduce the use of expensive Pd but also promote the electrocatalytic performance of ORR, owing to the synergistic effect between Pd and M. Here we report a cyanogel-derived synthesis of PdFe alloys with porous nanostructure via a simple coinstantaneous reduction reaction by using KPdCl/KFe(CN) cyanogel as precursor.

In view of the current situation of high cost and low catalytic efficiency of the commercial Pd-based catalysts, adding transition metals (Ni, Co, etc.) to form the Pd-M bimetallic catalyst not only reduces the consumption of Pd but also greatly improves the catalytic activity and stability, which has attracted increasing attention. In this work, the three-dimensional network Pd-Ni bimetallic catalysts were prepared successfully by a liquid-phase in situ reduction method with the hydroxylated γ-AlO as the support.
