Based on precolumn derivatization, an analytical method has been developed for the determination of six high boiling point polyhydric alcohols (HBPAs, b.p. > 300 ℃) in cosmetics and toothpaste, including erythritol, xylitol, Pro-Xylane-S, inositol, mannitol, and sorbitol. The water dispersion and oil in water samples were extracted by distilled water. The water in oil sample was firstly pre-dispersed with acetone, and then extracted by distilled water. The extract was concentrated to dry under nitrogen, and derivatized with acetic anhydride under the dispersion and catalysis of anhydrous pyridine. The derivatives were detected by gas chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry in the selected reaction monitoring mode, and quantified using arabinitol as internal standard. The experimental conditions such as the selection of columns, extraction procedures, and derivative conditions were optimized. This method was properly validated under the optimized conditions, and obtained excellent analytical features. Specifically, the correlation coefficients in the range of 0.02 ∼ 0.5 mg/L all exceed 0.992. The method limits of detection and quantification were 0.25 and 0.8 mg/kg, respectively. The average recoveries in toothpaste, cosmetics with oil in water and water in oil were 81.8 ∼ 107.1 %, with the relative standard deviation were 3.1 ∼ 7.2 %. The established method was successfully applied to commercial samples of different matrices, showing the advantages of simplicity, sensitivity, and good reproducibility, and can be used for the determination of HBPAs in cosmetics and toothpaste. The proposed methodology solves the problem that there is no detection method for HBPAs in cosmetics.

A common heavy metal in many facets of daily life is aluminum (AlCl3), which can be found in food, toothpaste, cosmetics, food additives, and numerous pharmaceutical items. The hippocampus, liver, and kidneys have the highest concentrations of this powerful neurotoxin, which also accumulates over time and contributes to the development of a number of cognitive disorders. Long-term overconsumption of AlCl3 results in hepatic and renal toxicity as well as neuronal inflammation.

The emergence of toothpastes containing different abrasive and whitening substances has been a constant concern among dental professionals. The aim of the present study was to perform an in vitro assessment of the surface topography of nanoparticle composite resins subjected to simulated brushing with dentifrices. Test samples were prepared with Filtek Universal (3M ESPE), Filtek Bulkfill (3M ESPE) and Z350 (3M ESPE), with 24 samples per resin.

This study assessed the effect of composite resins, aggregated or not with S-PRG particles, and the use of toothpaste in controlling demineralization and bacterial growth. Human molars were distributed into 3 groups: control (CT) - sound teeth, Beautifil Bulk Restorative System (aggregated with S-PRG) (BB), Filtek One Bulk Fill (without S-PRG) (FB). Teeth destined for groups BB and FB previously received Class I preparations (4 × 4 × 4 mm), followed by single-increment restorations.

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of home-use desensitizing agents over an 8-week period by comparing them using different measurement methods.
Methods: A randomized, controlled clinical trial was conducted with 180 individuals aged between 18 and 70 who clinically diagnosed dentin hypersensitivity (DH) in two or more non-adjacent teeth. Subjects who met the inclusion criteria (n = 164) were randomly allocated into five test groups-using Casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP), Arginine, Novamin, Propolis, and Potassium nitrate-and a control group using standard fluoride toothpaste.

Objectives: To investigate the prevalence and factors associated with dentin hypersensitivity (DH) and non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs).
Methods: The analytical cross-sectional study included 157 participants aged between 18 and 45 years, who were clinically examined and answered a questionnaire related to their lifestyle and daily habits (diet, parafunctional habits, temporomandibular disorders, general and oral health) and the Beck Anxiety Inventory. A descriptive analysis of the prevalence of DH and NCCL was performed, both at the individual level and considering the distribution among the teeth.
