Background: A diverting loop ileostomy (DLI) is performed in laparoscopic anterior rectal resection (LAR) surgery at high risk of anastomotic fistula. Minimally invasive surgery promotes postoperative recovery and cosmetics. To reduce abdominal trauma, specimen extraction through stoma incision (EXSI) is usually performed to avoid auxiliary abdominal incision with enlarged stomal incision.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of a skin barrier ring with assisted flow in preventing peristomal skin complications (PSCs) in patients with an ileostomy and to evaluate the participants' perceptions of the device.
Design: Single-group, prospective cohort study.
Subjects And Setting: Both inpatients and outpatients with newly created (n = 14) or established (n = 1) ileostomies were recruited from 2 clinical sites in the United States: one was an academic teaching hospital system in the Midwestern United States and the second was a teaching hospital located in the Southeastern United States.

Purpose: To adapt the Ostomy Skin Tool (discoloration, erosion, and tissue overgrowth) to the Brazilian culture and to analyze psychometric properties of the adapted version.
Design: Psychometric (methodologic) evaluation of the instrument.
Subjects And Setting: Three ostomy/enterostomal therapy nurses evaluated the extent and severity of peristomal skin conditions in a sample of 109 adults 18 years or older with peristomal skin complications.
