Article Abstract

An electrochemical Giese-type hydrothiolation of α-trifluoromethylstyrenes with disulfides is disclosed for the first time under metal-free and mild conditions. This approach provides a facile methodology for β-trifluoromethylated thioethers in moderate to good yields with high functional group tolerance starting from readily available substrates. Additionally, late-stage modification of drug molecules and gram-scale synthesis show practical advantages. The radical pathway of this reaction has been revealed by control experiments and cyclic voltammetry measurements.

Background: Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that is characterized by upper and lower motor neuron death that leads to paralysis with the average survival being 3-5 years after diagnosis. The major pathological protein in ALS is TDP-43. TDP-43 becomes hyperphosphorylated and forms inclusions mainly in the cytoplasm.

Organocatalytic CS insertion into epoxides in neat conditions: a straightforward approach for the efficient synthesis of Di- and tri-thiocarbonates.

The straightforward organocatalytic insertion of carbon disulfide (CS) into epoxides using either choline chloride () or tetrabutylammonium chloride (TBACl) is reported, for the first time, under solvent-free (neat) conditions. Fine-tuning of our system allowed us to obtain either dithiocarbonates (DTCs) or trithiocarbonates (TTCs) with high efficiency. Additionally, a mechanistic proposal is presented, supported by experimental evidence, DFT calculations and wavefunction analyses.

During fast-charging, uneven lithium plating on the surface of commercial graphite anode impedes the electrochemical performance of lithium-ion batteries, causing a safety issue. The formation of a passivation layer, the solid-electrolyte interphase (SEI), due to side reactions with the organic electrolyte, correlates with long-term cycling performance under fast-charging conditions, necessitating comprehensive analysis. Herein, it is demonstrated that a molybdenum disulfide (MoS) coating on natural graphite (NG) modulates the properties of the SEI layer, enabling reduction of the charging time and the enhancement of long-term cycling performance.

Coacervates have garnered significant attention as potential drug carriers. However, the instability resulting from their intrinsic membrane-free nature restricts the application of coacervates in drug delivery. Herein, the engineering of poly(ethylene glycol) nanoparticles (PEG NPs) is reported using coacervates composed of PEG and polyphenols as the templates, where PEG is subsequently cross-linked based on different chemistries (e.

Hardware implementation of reconfigurable and nonvolatile photoresponsivity is essential for advancing in-sensor computing for machine vision applications. However, existing reconfigurable photoresponsivity essentially depends on the photovoltaic effect of p-n junctions, which photoelectric efficiency is constrained by Shockley-Queisser limit and hinders the achievement of high-performance nonvolatile photoresponsivity. Here, we employ bulk photovoltaic effect of rhombohedral (3R) stacked/interlayer sliding tungsten disulfide (WS) to surpass this limit and realize highly reconfigurable, nonvolatile photoresponsivity with a retinomorphic photovoltaic device.
