Cancer cells exhibit a remarkable ability to orchestrate metabolic adaptations to survive and proliferate. Such metabolic adaptations, including carbohydrates, amino acids and lipid metabolism, have been shown to also contribute to the pathological cascade during cancer progression and therapy resistance. Importantly, these adaptations provide a rational for targeted therapies inducing selective cell death. Recently, two studies by Lorito et al (Lorito et al, 2024) and Ackermann et al (Ackermann et al, 2024) published in reported examples of alterations in lipid metabolism that can promote targetable vulnerabilities for tumors with poor prognosis.

Background: The diagnosis of depression or anxiety treated by SSRIs has become relatively common in women of childbearing age. However, the impact of gestational SSRI treatment on newborn thyroid function is lacking. We explored the impact of gestational SSRI treatment on newborn thyroid function as measured by the National Newborn Screening (NBS) Program and identified contributory factors.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common chronic degenerative joint disease, characterized by cartilage damage, synovial inflammation, subchondral bone sclerosis, marginal bone loss, and osteophyte development. Clinical manifestations include inflammatory joint pain, swelling, osteophytes, and limitation of motion. The pathogenesis of osteoarthritis has not yet been fully uncovered.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by the loss of insulin-producing cells in the pancreatic islets. Patients with T1D have autoreactive CD4 and CD8 T cells that show specific features, indicating previous exposure to self-antigens. Despite that memory T cells are vital components of the adaptive immune system, providing enduring protection against pathogens; individuals with T1D have a higher proportion of memory T cells compared to healthy individuals with naїve phenotypes.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) relies heavily on glutamine (Gln) utilization to meet its metabolic and biosynthetic needs. How epigenetic regulators contribute to the metabolic flexibility and PDAC's response and adaptation to Gln scarcity in the tumor milieu remains largely unknown. Here, we elucidate that prolonged Gln restriction or treatment with the Gln antagonist, 6-diazo-5-oxo-L-norleucine (DON), leads to growth inhibition and ferroptosis program activation in PDAC.

Background: Adipose tissue plays a critical role in the development of metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO), with distinct adipose depots demonstrating functional differences. This study aimed to investigate the unique characteristics of subcutaneous (SA) and visceral adipose tissue (VA) in MUO.
Methods: Paired omental VA and abdominal SA samples were obtained from four male patients with MUO and subjected to Four-Dimensional Data Independent Acquisition (4D-DIA) proteomic and lysine acetylation (Kac) analyses.
