Background: The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of treatment of hepatitis C with sofosbuvir and velpatasvir (SOF/VEL) on children's growth.
Methods: Fifty children 6-18 years of age were successfully treated for hepatitis C with a 12-week course of SOF/VEL fixed dose adjusted to the body weight in the PANDAA-PED (Treatment of chronic hepatitis C in children 6-18 years of age using a pangenotypic direct-acting antiviral sofosbuvir/velpatasvir) project. Growth parameters were compared at 1 year after treatment with baseline (at the start of treatment) and 12-week-posttreatment values.
Background: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a respiratory virus that has afflicted millions of individuals in the United States. A few medications have been determined to be beneficial for outpatient treatment. The medications in use against mild-to-moderate COVID-19 in the outpatient setting during the study period are nirmatrelvir-ritonavir, remdesivir, molnupiravir, and bebtelovimab.

The use of anticoagulation therapy could prove to be controversial when trying to balance ischemic stroke and intracranial bleeding risks in patients with concurrent cerebral amyloid angiopathy (CAA) and atrial fibrillation (AF). In fact, CAA is an age-related cerebral vasculopathy that predisposes patients to intracerebral hemorrhage. Nevertheless, many AF patients require oral systemic dose-adjusted warfarin, direct oral anticoagulants (such as factor Xa inhibitors) or direct thrombin inhibitors to control often associated with cardioembolic stroke risk.

Direct Oral Anticoagulants (DOACs) typically exhibit a predictable pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic response at a fixed dose, not necessitating monitoring under standard conditions. Yet, in specific clinical scenarios that can impair it, like Congenital Nephrotic Syndrome (CNS) or Short Bowel Syndrome (SBS) due to absorption issues, anti-thrombin III (AT-III) deficiency and non-selective proteinuria, adjusting the dosage to achieve appropriate plasma concentrations could prove beneficial. We report a 3-month-old female with catheter-related jugular thrombosis affected by CNS concomitant to SBS and failure of both treatments with heparin and warfarin, that was switched to dose-adjusted pediatric rivaroxaban.
