Division of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, Lahey Hospital, Burlington, Massachusetts.

The double-lumen endotracheal tube (DLT) was introduced by Carlens in 1949 and became widely used for single-lung ventilation. DLTs have since become standard for most pulmonary resections. Although the use of DLTs is routine and safe in experienced hands, it is not without risk.

Concurrent variations of left testicular vessels.

Anat Cell Biol

January 2025

Division of Anatomy, Department of Basic Medical Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Manipal, India.

Knowledge of variations of the testicular vessels is essential for urologists, radiologists, and surgeons in general, as iatrogenic injuries of these vessels may affect the spermatogenesis severely. Though variations of testicular vessels are common, combined variations of these vessels are rare. We observed concurrent variations of left testicular vessels in an adult cadaver aged 70 years.

The mediastinal vasculature can be affected by various etiologies in cancer patients. Both direct and indirect sequela of cancer may result in life-threatening clinical presentations. Tumor growth may cause vessel narrowing and decreased blood flow from either extrinsic mass effect, invasion into the vascular wall, or tumor thrombus within the lumen.

Background: There are differences in the extent of excision of articular processes, spinal processes and posterior ligamentum complexes (PLC) for posterior approach lumbar interbody fusion. Given that the biomechanical significance of these structures has been verified and that deterioration of the biomechanical environment is the main trigger for complications in both fused and adjacent motion segments, changes in decompression ranges may affect the potential risk of adjacent segmental disease (ASD) biomechanically; however, this topic has yet to be identified.

Methods: Posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) with different decompression strategies was simulated in a well-validated lumbosacral model.

The combination of hip arthroscopy and periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) has been proven safe and effective for addressing symptoms in patients with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). As not every patient with dysplasia will require a hip arthroscopy to obtain desired clinical improvement in the setting of periacetabular osteotomy, a challenge is identifying which patients require adjacent procedures (either via arthroscopic or open) to fully treat their hip pathology. Even though labral repair is the most reported arthroscopic procedure in cases of hip dysplasia, I would suggest that labral treatment is the least likely helpful component of hip arthroscopy in these cases.
