Article Synopsis
  • Carcinoma of buccal mucosa is a common oral cancer in India, and this study investigates whether unilateral or bilateral neck irradiation improves locoregional control in patients with well-lateralized cancers without involved nodes in the contralateral neck.
  • The study involved 48 patients, divided into unilateral and bilateral radiation treatment groups; results showed no significant difference in disease recurrence between the two groups after a median follow-up of 23 months.
  • Findings indicate that bilateral neck radiation does not have advantages over unilateral irradiation for selected patients, highlighting that it may lead to increased radiation exposure to healthy tissues without improving disease-free survival rates.

Objective: To pilot a process for the independent external validation of an artificial intelligence (AI) tool to detect breast cancer using data from the NHS breast screening programme (NHSBSP).

Methods: A representative data set of mammography images from 26,000 women attending 2 NHS screening centres, and an enriched data set of 2054 positive cases were used from the OPTIMAM image database. The use case of the AI tool was the replacement of the first or second human reader.

We sought to evaluate the efficacy of trapping free hydrogen sulfide (HS) following severe HS intoxication. Sodium hydrosulfide solution (NaHS, 20 mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally in 69 freely moving rats. In a first group (protocol 1), 40 rats were randomly assigned to receive saline (n = 20) or the cobalt compound tetranitrocobinamide (TNCbi) (n = 20, 75 mg/kg iv), one minute into coma, when free HS was still present in the blood.
