In recent years, rare-earth-based phosphors for near-ultraviolet (NUV)-triggered white light emitting diodes (w-LEDs) have become a research hotspot. However, it is still not possible to obtain phosphors with high quantum yield, excellent color purity and multiple applications. Hence, a series of novel Eu-activated CaGaGeO (CGG) red-emitting phosphors with high quantum efficiency, excellent color purity and good thermal stability were prepared by a high-temperature solid-phase method. All the CGG:Eu phosphors emitted dazzling red emission with excitation at 394 nm. The optimal Eu doping concentration of compounds was 12% with an excellent color purity of 97.89%, and the concentration quenching mechanism was investigated as dipole-dipole interactions. Meanwhile, the synthetic samples exhibited good thermal stability with the activation energy of 0.26 eV. Remarkably, the internal quantum yield of the prepared phosphors reaches 94.26%. Furthermore, the emission spectra of the prepared red-LEDs overlap considerably with the absorption spectra of P and P required for plant growth. The w-LED device emits warm white light with a high color rendering index of 91.64 and an appropriate correlated color temperature of 4808 K. These excellent luminescence properties indicate that the prepared CGG:Eu phosphors exhibit extensive potential for applications in plant growth lighting and white LEDs.

Aqueous-phase phosphors are of utmost importance for a myriad of applications. However, the emission wavelengths of the current aqueous organic room-temperature phosphorescent (RTP) materials are limited to green and red bands, while the blue part is rarely reported, thus limiting the development of a full-color RTP system. Theoretically, carboxylated benzene is expected to be blue phosphorescence-emissive, but only green phosphorescence is observed in solid, due to the strong intermolecular π-π stacking that decreases the energy gap.

Although the Doppler velocity log is widely applied to measure underwater fluid flow, it requires high power and is inappropriate for measuring low flow velocity. This study proposes a fluid flow sensor that utilizes optical flow sensing. The proposed sensor mimics the neuromast of a fish by attaching a phosphor to two pillar structures (A and B) produced using ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber.

High-performance, environmentally friendly indium phosphide (InP)-based quantum dots (QDs) are urgently needed to meet the demands of rapidly evolving display and lighting technologies. By adopting the highly efficient and cost-effective one-pot method and utilizing aluminum isopropoxide (AIP) as the Al source, a series of Al-doped InP/(Al)ZnS QDs with emission maxima ranging from 480 to 627 nm were synthesized. The photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) of the blue, green, yellow, orange, and red QDs, with emission peaks at 480, 509, 560, 600, and 627 nm, reached 34%, 62%, 86%, 96%, and 85%, respectively.

Thermal quenching (TQ) of luminescence presents a significant barrier to the effective use of optical thermometers in high-temperature applications. Herein, we report a novel uniaxial negative thermal expansion (NTE) phosphor, YMoO:Yb,Nd, synthesized by a solid-state reaction. Under 980 nm laser excitation, it exhibits excellent thermally enhanced near-infrared (NIR) upconversion luminescence (UCL) performance.

Metasurface-Based Phosphor-Converted Micro-LED Architecture for Displays─Creating Guided Modes for Enhanced Directionality.

Phosphor-converted micro-light emitting diodes (micro-LEDs) are a crucial technology for display applications but face significant challenges in light extraction because of the high refractive index of the blue pump die chip. In this study, we design and experimentally demonstrate a nanophotonic approach that overcomes this issue, achieving up to a 3-fold increase in light extraction efficiency. Our approach involves engineering the local density of optical states (LDOS) to generate quasi-guided modes within the phosphor layer by strategically inserting a thin low-index spacer in combination with a metasurface for mode extraction.
