Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most severe form of brain cancer in adults, characterized by its complex vascular network that contributes to resistance to conventional therapies. Thermal therapies, such as magnetic hyperthermia (MHT), emerge as promising alternatives, using heat to selectively target tumor cells while minimizing damage to healthy tissues. The organ-on-a-chip can replicate this complex vascular network of GBM, allowing for detailed investigations of heat dissipation in MHT, while computational simulations refine treatment parameters. In this in silico study, tumor-on-a-chip models were used to optimize MHT therapy by comparing heat dissipation in normal and abnormal vascular networks, considering geometries, flow rates, and concentrations of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). In the high vascular complexity model, the maximum velocity was 19 times lower than in the normal vasculature model and 4 times lower than in the low-complexity tumor model, highlighting the influence of vascular complexity on velocity and temperature distribution. The MHT simulation showed greater heat intensity in the central region, with a flow rate of 1 µL/min and 0.5 mg/mL of MNPs being the best conditions to achieve the therapeutic temperature. The complex vasculature model had the lowest heat dissipation, reaching 44.15 °C, compared to 42.01 °C in the low-complexity model and 37.80 °C in the normal model. These results show that greater vascular complexity improves heat retention, making it essential to consider this heterogeneity to optimize MHT treatment. Therefore, for an efficient MHT process, it is necessary to simulate ideal blood flow and MNP conditions to ensure heat retention at the tumor site, considering its irregular vascularization and heat dissipation for effective destruction.

Here, we systematically investigate the effect of mesa/sub-mesa sidewall engineering on single-junction (SJ) and high-voltage (HV) deep ultraviolet light-emitting diodes (DUV LEDs). The configuration of ∼46° inclined angle of the mesa/sub-mesa sidewall and Al reflector optimally promotes light extraction of SJ/HV DUV LEDs. We further observe substantial improvements in the self-heating and external quantum efficiency (EQE) droop effects of HV DUV LEDs with an increasing number of sub-mesas.

To predict the flow behavior and identify the optimal hot processing window for A100 steel, a constitutive model and a hot processing map were established using true stress-strain data extracted from isothermal compression tests performed at temperatures ranging from 1073 to 1353 K and strain rates varying between 0.01 and 10 s. The results indicate a strong linear trend between the logarithmic stress and the reciprocal of temperature, along with a significant quadratic relationship between the logarithmic stress and logarithmic strain rate.

Exposure to high temperatures during indoor and outdoor activities increases the risk of heat-related illness such as cramps, rashes, and heatstroke (HS). Fatal cases of HS are ten times more common than serious cardiac episodes in sporting scenarios, with untreated cases leading to mortality rates as high as 80%. Enhancing thermal comfort can be achieved through heat loss in enclosed spaces and the human body, utilizing heat transfer mechanisms such as radiation, conduction, convection, and evaporation, which do not require initial energy input.

This study determined process conditions under which polystyrene (CPS) and zirconia (YSZ) beads cause similar breakage kinetics and temperature rise during manufacturing of drug nanosuspensions via wet bead milling and explored relative advantages of CPS beads, particularly for stress-sensitive compounds. Besides temperature and particle size measurements, a microhydrodynamic-based kinetic model simulated the conditions for CPS to achieve breakage rates equivalent to those of YSZ. A power law correlation was applied to find conditions conducive to temperature equivalency.
