We propose a cotton pest and disease recognition method, SpemNet, based on efficient multi-scale attention and stacking patch embedding. By introducing the SPE module and the EMA module, we successfully solve the problems of local feature learning difficulty and insufficient multi-scale feature integration in the traditional Vision Transformer model, which significantly improve the performance and efficiency of the model. In our experiments, we comprehensively validate the SpemNet model on the CottonInsect dataset, and the results show that SpemNet performs well in the cotton pest recognition task, with significant effectiveness and superiority. The SpemNet model excels in key metrics such as precision and F1 score, demonstrating significant potential and superiority in the cotton pest and disease recognition task. This study provides an efficient and reliable solution in the field of cotton pest and disease identification, which is of great theoretical and applied significance.

The increasing resistance in field populations to sulfoxaflor and many different types of insecticides represents a significant challenge in protecting cotton production in China. Although resistant pests were able to regain their susceptibility to insecticides after the reduction in insecticide applications, some of their biological parameters remained different from susceptible strains. The resistance to sulfoxaflor was unstable in after the loss of selective pressure.

The fall armyworm (FAW) is an invasive pest that has been rapidly spreading across China since its detection in Yunnan province in January 2019. Although sugarcane and sorghum have been reported as hosts, their effects on FAW's population growth and life table parameters have not been examined in China. Our research shows that FAW's development and life table metrics vary significantly when reared on sorghum, sugarcane, and maize.

Wheat is an important cereal crop globally and in the United States, and is the largest crop grown by acreage in Colorado. In June 2023, we observed wheat fields displaying severe yellowing and virus-like disease symptoms in plants across seven eastern Colorado counties (Yuma, Prowers, Kit Carson, Washington, Sedgewick, Morgan, and Weld). Symptomatic plants were prominent in fields and appeared bright yellow, with ringspots, mosaic patterning, and streaking on leaves.
