Antimicrobial resistance dataset for pattern recognition in machine learning application.

Data Brief

Microbiology/Pure and Applied Biology Programme, College of Agriculture, Engineering and Science, Bowen University, Iwo, Nigeria.

Published: December 2024

This study presents a dataset of bacterial isolates collected from abattoirs in Osun State, Nigeria, designed to support research on antimicrobial resistance (AMR). The environment plays a critical role in the development and spread of AMR, posing a growing threat to global health. This dataset aims to address challenges in antibiotic selection by enabling the prediction of effective drugs for specific bacterial infections.

Carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) is an emerging threat to healthcare settings in many countries, principally in South Asia. The current study was aimed to identify, evaluate whole-genome and characterize the prophages in genome of CRAB strain, recovered from patients of Lahore General Hospital, Lahore. More than 200 samples were collected and identified by morphological and biochemical tests.

A review of the environmental spread of Salmonella enterica serovars through water in Africa.

Lett Appl Microbiol

Egg and Poultry Production Safety Research Unit, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, U.S. National Poultry Research Center, Athens, GA, U.S.A.

Salmonella is an enteric pathogenic bacterium in mammals that thrives in sewage, soil, and aquatic environments because of its wide ecological adaptability. The spread of Salmonella infection is associated with a lack of clean water, poor hygiene, and poor sanitation in developing countries. However, the input of Salmonella-contaminated surface water and groundwater in the environmental dissemination of antimicrobial-resistant Salmonella is obscure outside developed countries.

Objective: The emergence of resistance-associated substitutions (RASs) poses a significant challenge to the effective treatment of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection using direct-acting antivirals. This study's objective was to observe the prevalence of HCV genotypes and RAS within the Former Soviet Union (FSU) countries.

Methods: We analysed 60 NS3, 313 NS5A and 1119 NS5B sequences of HCV deposited in open-access databases from 11 FSU countries for the prevalence of genotypes and the presence of RAS using the Geno2Pheno software.

Anti-Mold Activities of Cationic Oligomeric Surfactants.

Molds are persistent and harmful but receive far less research attention compared with pathogenic bacteria. With the increase in microbial resistance to single-chain surfactant antimicrobial agents, it is crucial to investigate how surfactant structures affect the antimicrobial activity of surfactants. Here, we have studied the antimold efficacy of a series of oligomeric cationic quaternary ammonium surfactants at varying oligomerization levels with or without dynamic covalent imine bonds.

Introduction: The WHO endorsed the Xpert MTB/RIF (Xpert) technique since 2011 as initial test to diagnose rifampicin-resistant tuberculosis (RR-TB). No systematic review has quantified the proportion of pretreatment attrition in RR-TB patients diagnosed with Xpert in high TB burden countries.Pretreatment attrition for RR-TB represents the gap between patients diagnosed and those who effectively started anti-TB treatment regardless of the reasons (which include pretreatment mortality (death of a diagnosed RR-TB patient before starting adequate treatment) and/or pretreatment loss to follow-up (PTLFU) (drop-out of a diagnosed RR-TB patient before initiation of anti-TB treatment).
