Before removing the diverticula (running suture for mucosa, interrupted stitches for the esophageal wall with resorbable material) a myotomy of the upper sphincter (pars inf. of the crycopharyngeal) muscle should be performed to restore the preoperative insufficient relaxation of the upper sphincter. The diffuse spasm shows a normal function of the LES; painful attacks can be treated by calcium antagonists or nitroglycerin. The achalasia can be treated either by endoscopic dilatation or myotomy to reduce the LES-pressure and restore the insufficient relaxation of the LES.

Introduction: Recent studies have shown that capsaicin improves the pharyngeal swallowing reflex. However, the mechanism by which capsaicin alters mastication and oesophageal function remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of capsaicin on masticatory and oesophageal function.

Introduction: Fluid thickeners used in the management of oropharyngeal dysphagia exhibit non-Newtonian shear-thinning rheology, impacting their viscosity during deglutition. This study investigated how the rheological properties of thickened fluids affect pharyngeal swallowing parameters in patients with oropharyngeal motor disorders diagnosed by pharyngeal high-resolution manometry impedance (P-HRM-I).
Methods: Seventy-two patients (18-89 years) referred for P-HRM-I were diagnostically assessed with a 10 mL thin bolus.

Pancreaticobiliary maljunction (PBMJ) has a long common channel (CC) that causes pancreaticobiliary reflux (PBR), which has been implicated in gallstones, cholangiocarcinoma, and pancreatitis. By contrast, PBR has occurred in cases with normal and longer CCs than normal but shorter than PBMJ. This pathophysiology has been primarily reported in adults and rarely in children.

To establish a novel laryngopharyngeal reflux model in Bama minipigs excluding concurrent gastroesophageal reflux through endoscopic cricopharyngeal myotomy. Twelve 8-month-old male Bama minipigs were randomly assigned to three groups: Group 1 underwent cricopharyngeal myotomy alone, Group 2 underwent combined cricopharyngeal and lower esophageal sphincter myotomy, and Group 3 served as the control group. Following a one-week acclimatization period, the respective surgical procedures were performed.

A 69-year-old woman with left-sided breast cancer developed elevated creatine kinase levels and muscle weakness in her extremities after treatment with pembrolizumab. The patient was diagnosed with immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI)-related myositis. Although the patient had no symptoms of dysphagia, we evaluated her swallowing function because esophageal dysfunction is a known complication of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy.
