A catalytic formal Si reaction was designed to achieve stereoretentive products for -4-hydroxymethyl-1,2-cyclopentene oxides by using diarylborinic acid as a dual role catalyst and chloride as a catalytic transient nucleophile through a double-displacement mechanism. This reaction offers the advantages of a low catalyst loading of 0.1 mol % and wide substrate scope, even including -substituents. The use of chiral boron acid as a catalyst for this reaction was also attempted.

To continue working during menses, female sex workers (FSW) may use unhygienic absorbents to hide their menstrual status. The menstrual disc may provide a solution. Little is known about men's knowledge and views, specifically around sex during menstruation with FSW, a population who are particularly vulnerable to violence which may be heightened during menses.

In this work, a switchable synthesis of β-ketosulfone and α-chloroketone through a radical difunctionalization of alkenes is reported. The transformation works well under iron peroxo species/photoredox dual catalysis and an open-flask atmosphere, and the reaction is highlighted with good yields and a broad reaction scope. Mechanism studies show that the reaction is initiated by a formal [4 + 2] cyclization of the sulfonyl radical in a regioselective manner.

The construction of C-C bonds to form all-carbon quaternary centers remains a significant challenge in synthetic chemistry. Herein, we report a tandem process involving a 1,2-migration of a tetra-coordinated boron intermediate followed by a Claisen rearrangement of the boron enolate, achieved through a reaction between allyl diazoacetates and trialkylboranes. The transformation forms two C-C bonds at the carbenic position of diazo substrate in a single-step operation under neutral conditions.

The benzene tetraanion-bridged rare earth inverse arene amidinate complexes [{Ln(κ:η-Piso)}(μ-η:η-CH)] (2-Ln, Ln = Gd, Tb, Dy, Y; Piso = {(NDipp)C Bu}, Dipp = CH Pr-2,6) were prepared by the reduction of parent Ln(iii) bis-amidinate halide precursors [Ln(Piso)X] (Ln = Tb, Dy; X = Cl, I) or [Ln(Piso)I] (Ln = Gd, Y) with 3 eq. KC in benzene, or by the reaction of the homoleptic Ln(ii) complexes [Ln(Piso)] (Ln = Tb, Dy) with 2 eq. KC in benzene.
