Is There Space for New Graduate Nurses in Pediatric Oncology?

Clin J Oncol Nurs

Children's Wisconsin.

Published: September 2024

For my senior high school capstone project, I focused on pediatric oncology, which included shadowing two physicians. I realized that although physicians do incredible work, the nurses I encountered were so hands on and appea.

Free-Space to SMF Integration and Green to C-Band Conversion Based on PPLN.

Sensors (Basel)

December 2024

Graduate School of Engineering Science, Osaka University, Toyonaka 560-8531, Osaka, Japan.

In this study, we experimentally demonstrate a PPLN-based free-space to SMF (single-mode fiber) conversion system capable of efficient long-wavelength down-conversion from 518 nm, optimized for minimal loss in highly turbid water, to 1540 nm, which is ideal for low-loss transmission in standard SMF. Leveraging the nonlinear optical properties of periodically poled lithium niobate (PPLN), we achieve a wavelength conversion efficiency of 1.6% through difference frequency generation while maintaining a received optical signal-to-noise ratio of 10.

The Two-Spin Enigma: From the Helium Atom to Quantum Ontology.

Entropy (Basel)

November 2024

EPITA Research Laboratory, 14-16 Rue Voltaire, 94270 Le Kremlin-Bicêtre, France.

The purpose of this article is to provide a novel approach and justification of the idea that classical physics and quantum physics can neither function nor even be conceived without the other-in line with ideas attributed to, e.g., Niels Bohr or Lev Landau.

Traumatic cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage from skull base fractures increases the risk of bacterial meningitis, which is associated with a high mortality rate in adults, and commonly results in severe neurological outcomes. While most cases of CSF leakage occur within three months post-injury and generally resolve spontaneously, delayed-onset meningitis remains a challenging complication. Herein, we report a rare case of severe bacterial meningitis with an intraventricular abscess one year following a frontal skull base fracture, despite no CSF leak.

Vertical Farming Systems (VFS) emerge as an approach to optimize plant growth in urban and controlled environments, by enabling sustainable and intensive production in reduced spaces. VFS allow for greater control over growing conditions, such as light, temperature and humidity, resulting in higher quality crops and with less use of resources, such as water and fertilizers. This research investigates the effects of different lighting regimes (Constant and Gaussian) and spectral qualities (white, RBW, blue and red) on the growth, photosynthesis, and biomass accumulation of lentil microgreens () in VFS.

With current treatments addressing only a fraction of pathogens and new viral threats constantly evolving, there is a critical need to expand our existing therapeutic arsenal. To speed the rate of discovery and better prepare against future threats, we establish a high-throughput platform capable of screening compounds against 40 diverse viral proteases simultaneously. This multiplex approach is enabled by using cellular biosensors of viral protease activity combined with DNA-barcoding technology, as well as several design innovations that increase assay sensitivity and correct for plate-to-plate variation.
