A recapitulation of magnetic space groups and their UNI symbols.

Acta Crystallogr B Struct Sci Cryst Eng Mater

Institut Laue-Langevin (ILL), 71 avenue des Martyrs, 38042 Grenoble, France.

Published: October 2024

The mathematical structure, description and classification of magnetic space groups is briefly reviewed, with special emphasis on the recently proposed notation, the so-called UNI symbols [Campbell et al. (2022). Acta Cryst. A78, 99-106]. As illustrative examples, very simple magnetic space groups from each of the four possible types are described in detail.

Introduction: While cerebral amyloid angiopathy is likely responsible for intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) occurring in superficial (grey matter, vermis) cerebellar locations, it is unclear whether hypertensive arteriopathy (HA), the other major cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD), is associated with cerebellar ICH (cICH) in deep (white matter, deep nuclei, cerebellar peduncle) regions. We tested the hypothesis that HA-associated neuroimaging markers are significantly associated with deep cICH compared to superficial cICH.

Patients And Methods: Brain MRI scans from consecutive non-traumatic cICH patients admitted to a referral center were analyzed for cSVD markers.

Department of Orbit, Oculoplasty, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Services, Sankara Nethralaya, Medical Research Foundation, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India.

Purpose: To present the clinical features and management outcomes in a series of patients with orbital and adnexal sarcoidosis.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of 19 histopathologically proven cases of orbital and adnexal sarcoidosis over the past ten years. The data analyzed included demographic details, clinical and imaging features, and management outcomes.

Comparative Investigation of Vortex and Direct Plasma Discharge for Treating Titanium Surface.

Numerous studies have investigated the surface treatment of implants using various types of plasma, including atmospheric pressure plasma and vacuum plasma, to remove impurities and increase surface energy, thereby enhancing osseointegration. Most previous studies have focused on generating plasma directly on the implant surface by using the implant as an electrode for plasma discharge. However, plasmas generated under atmospheric and moderate vacuum conditions often have a limited plasma volume, meaning the shape of the electrodes significantly influences the local electric field characteristics, which in turn affects plasma behavior.

Intradural lumbar disc herniation (ILDH) is a very rare condition, with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage as a postoperative complication. The central canal of the conus medullaris was reported to communicate with the subarachnoid space through a caudal aperture; however, this aperture has never been observed in vivo. Herein, we report a case of L1/2 ILDH with postoperative spinal adhesive arachnoiditis and syringomyelia in which the communication considered to be a caudal aperture was detected.

The study of transient and variable events, including novae, active galactic nuclei, and black hole binaries, has historically been a fruitful path for elucidating the evolutionary mechanisms of our universe. The study of such events in the millimeter and submillimeter is, however, still in its infancy. Submillimeter observations probe a variety of materials, such as optically thick dust, which are hard to study in other wavelengths.
