Background: Evidence supporting cannabis substitution along with liberalized cannabis laws have left recovery homes such as sober living houses (SLHs) in a difficult position regarding policies relating to cannabis use among SLH residents. Despite the high progress that has been made in the field of cardiology, the left ventricular assist device (LVAD) can still cause complications (thrombosis/bleeding) in heart failure (HF) patients after implantation. Complications develop due to the incorrect dose of antithrombotic therapy, due to the influence of the non-physiological shear stress of the device, and also due to inherited genetic polymorphisms. Therefore, the aim of our study is to identify the influence of the genetic polymorphisms on complication development in HF patients with implanted LVADs with prescribed antiplatelet therapy.

Objectives: Opioids kill tens of thousands of patients each year. While only a fraction of people with opioid use disorder (OUD) have accessed treatment in the last year, 30% of people who died from an overdose had an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) encounter within a year of their death. Prehospital buprenorphine represents an important emerging OUD treatment, yet limited data describe barriers to this treatment.
