We report a simple, direct, and green conversion of air/N to nitric acid by bubbling the gas through an aqueous solution containing 50 μM Fe ions. Air stone, along with ultrasonication, was employed to generate gas microbubbles. HO produced at the water-gas interface undergoes Fenton's reaction with Fe ions to produce OH that efficiently activates N, yielding nitric acid as the final product. Nitrate (NO) formation occurs without the use of any external electric potential or radiation. The concentration of NO increased linearly with time over a period of 132 h. The average NO production rate is found to be 12.9 ± 0.05 μM h. We envision that this nitrogen fixation strategy that produces nitric acid in an eco-friendly way might open the possibility for the energy-efficient and green production of nitric acid.

Meteoritic impacts on planetary surfaces deliver a significant amount of energy that can produce prebiotic organic compounds such as cyanides, which may be a key step to the formation of biomolecules. To study the chemical processes of impact-induced organic synthesis, we simulated the physicochemical processes of hypervelocity impacts (HVI) in experiments with both high-speed C projectiles and laser ablation. In the first approach, a C beam was accelerated to collide with ammonium nitrate (NHNO) to reproduce the shock process and plume generation of meteoritic impacts on nitrogen-rich planetary surfaces.

Five previously unreported 5-hydroxymethylfurfural (5-HMF) derivatives, including chinenfurfurals A () and B () as 5-HMF-citric acid hybrids and chinenfurfurals C-E (-) as 5-HMF oligomers, as well as four known analogues (-), were isolated from the fruits of a well-known Chinese herbal species . The structures of these furfural compounds were established by detailed analyses of spectroscopic data especially HRMS and NMR, and it is the first report of furfural type constituents from the title species. The anti-inflammatory property of them was further evaluated by testing their inhibition against the production of nitric oxide in lipopolysaccharide-activated murine RAW264.

Calcium-based nanomaterials-mediated Ca overload-induced pyroptosis and its application in tumor therapy have received considerable attention. However, the calcium buffering capacity of tumor cells can maintain mitochondrial calcium homeostasis, so it is important to effectively disrupt this homeostasis to activate pyroptosis. Here, a nano-modulator CUR@CaCO-PArg@HA (CCAH) was developed to regulate calcium overload in multiple channels and activate pyroptosis.

Background: Pine (Pinus koraiensis) nut oil (PNO) has been reported to have various beneficial effects on hepatic triglyceride accumulation and atherosclerosis in animal models. MicroRNAs (miRs) are involved in various diseases by modulating physiological processes. However, the mechanism underlying PNO's effects on the regulation of miRs involved in hepatic cholesterol homeostasis and inflammation remains unclear.
