Liver Cirrhosis, defined as the final stage of chronic liver disease, may become more prevalent in the lower level of body defense against oxidation and inflammation. Therefore, we assessed the association of dietary total antioxidant capacity (DTAC) with the severity and mortality of cirrhosis in a cohort study. 120 newly diagnosed cirrhosis patients from Tehran, Iran, participated in this study. The patients' habitual diet was assessed using a 168-item validated food frequency questionnaire. Both ferric-reducing antioxidant potential (FRAP) and oxygen radical scavenging capacity (ORAC) methods were computed to achieve DTAC scores. The association between DTAC with disease severity and mortality was estimated by multivariate linear regression and cox proportional hazards regression models. Dietary total antioxidant capacity-ORAC had a significant inverse association with disease severity in both crude and adjusted models ( for trend: <0.001 and 0.016 respectively). The risk of mortality in the first and second tertiles of ORAC was 5.56 (95 % CI: 2.25-13.75; P = 0.002) and 3.20 (95 % CI: 1.25-8.19; P = 0.015) higher than those in the third category, respectively. In conclusion, a higher antioxidant capacity of diet is associated with less disease severity and mortality risk in cirrhosis.

The utilization of exogenous fiber-degrading enzymes in commercial swine diets is a strategy to increase the nutrient and energy density of poorly digestible ingredients. In a prior set of studies, dietary multienzyme blend (MEblend) supplementation increased the apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD) of nutrients, non-starch polysaccharides, and energy in complete high-fibrous gestation diets by 6% when fed to gestating sows. The current study aimed to determine the effects of MEblend (containing xylanase, β-glucanase, cellulase, amylase, protease, pectinase, and invertase activities) supplementation on ATTD of energy and nutrients of individual feedstuffs commonly used in gestating sow diets across major pork-producing regions worldwide, which differ in their fibrous components.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the effects of oral semaglutide on the changes in food preference of Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes.
Methods: This retrospective multicenter study included 75 patients with type 2 diabetes who received oral semaglutide. The primary outcome was the change in the score of brief-type self-administered diet history questionnaire (BDHQ) score 3 months after the initiation of oral semaglutide treatment.

Objective: To investigate the effects of light fasting diet therapy, including flaxseed powder supplementation, on lipid metabolism and sex hormone levels in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) combined with infertility.
Methods: A total of 104 PCOS patients with combined infertility were divided into the control group ( = 52) and intervention group ( = 52) using a random number table method. Over a two-month study period, the control group received light fasting diet therapy with rice flour as a placebo, while the intervention group received light fasting diet therapy supplemented with flaxseed powder.

Canadian children consume a significant proportion of daily foods at school, do not benefit from any federal school food program, and have historically inadequate diets. Assessment of dietary intakes at school can inform policy discussions for the design, funding, and delivery of school-based nutrition interventions. The objectives were to examine the most recent nationally representative dietary intake data of Canadian children at school by (i) location of food preparation, (ii) meal occasion, and (iii) as a proportion of total daily intakes.

: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) has become a growing public health problem worldwide, and dietary interventions have important potential in the prevention and treatment of NAFLD. Moreover, previous animal studies have shown that flaxseed has a good improvement effect in animal NAFLD models. : Assess whether flaxseed powder could improve the liver lipid content in patients with NAFLD.
