Growing evidence supports a role for dysregulated neuroinflammation in autism. However, the underlying mechanisms of microglia-evoked neuroinflammation in the development of autistic phenotypes have not been elucidated. This study aimed to investigate the role and underlying mechanisms of microglial S100 calcium-binding protein A9 (S100A9) in autistic phenotypes.

Congenital hypothyroidism (CH) has been reported as a prevalent endocrine disorder in newborns. Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) have been widely detected in humans and can influence endocrine function, especially thyroid function, and neonates as a susceptible population may be more prone to suffer from CH through exposure to various EDCs. In this study, the concentrations and composition profiles of several typical EDCs were determined in 266 serum samples collected from newborns with (n = 136) and without CH (n = 130) in Beijing, China from 2018 to 2020.

Background: Individual neurobiological heterogeneity among patients with tobacco use disorder (TUD) hampers the identification of neuroimaging phenotypes.

Methods: The current study recruited 122 TUD individuals and 57 healthy controls, and obtained their 3D-T1 images. Heterogeneity through discriminative analysis (HYDRA) was applied to uncover the potential subtype of TUD where regional gray matter volume (GMV) was treated as the feature.

Genomic investigation of plant secondary metabolism: insights from synteny network analysis of oxidosqualene cyclase flanking genes.

The clustered distribution of genes involved in metabolic pathways within the plant genome has garnered significant attention from researchers. By comparing and analyzing changes in the flanking regions of metabolic genes across a diverse array of species, we can enhance our understanding of the formation and distribution of biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs). In this study, we have designed a workflow that uncovers and assesses conserved positional relationships between genes in various species by using synteny neighborhood networks (SNN).
