A hyperbolic 0-metric on a surface with boundary is a hyperbolic metric on its interior, exhibiting the boundary behavior of the standard metric on the Poincaré disk. Consider the infinite-dimensional Teichmüller spaces of hyperbolic 0-metrics on oriented surfaces with boundary, up to diffeomorphisms fixing the boundary and homotopic to the identity. We show that these spaces have natural symplectic structures, depending only on the choice of an invariant metric on . We prove that these Teichmüller spaces are Hamiltonian Virasoro spaces for the action of the universal cover of the group of diffeomorphisms of the boundary. We give an explicit formula for the Hill potential on the boundary defining the moment map. Furthermore, using Fenchel-Nielsen parameters we prove a Wolpert formula for the symplectic form, leading to global Darboux coordinates on the Teichmüller space.

Virus neutralization profiles against primary infection sera and corresponding antigenic cartography are integral part of the COVID-19 and influenza vaccine strain selection processes. Human single variant exposure sera have previously defined the antigenic relationships among SARS-CoV-2 variants but are now largely unavailable due to widespread population immunity. Therefore, antigenic characterization of future SARS-CoV-2 variants will require an animal model, analogous to using ferrets for influenza virus.

The choice of organism to host a genetic circuit, the chassis, is often defaulted to model organisms due to their amenability. The chassis-design space has therefore remained underexplored as an engineering variable. In this work, we explored the design space of a genetic toggle switch through variations in nine ribosome binding site compositions and three host contexts, creating 27 circuit variants.

Topological plasmonics combines principles of topology and plasmonics to provide new methods for controlling light, analogous to topological edge states in photonics. However, designing such topological states remains challenging due to the complexity of the high-dimensional design space. We present a novel method that uses supervised, physics-informed deep learning and surrogate modeling to design topological devices for desired wavelengths.

Membrane-assisted direct seawater splitting (DSS) technologies are actively studied as a promising route to produce green hydrogen (H2), whereas the indispensable use of supporting electrolytes that help to extract water and provide electrochemically-accelerated reaction media results in a severe energy penalty, consuming up to 12.5% of energy input when using a typical KOH electrolyte. We bypass this issue by designing a zero-gap electrolyzer configuration based on the integration of cation exchange membrane and bipolar membrane assemblies, which protects stable DSS operation against the precipitates and corrosion in the absence of additional supporting electrolytes.

Sexual harassment (SH) refers to unwelcome behavior that creates a hostile, intimidating, or offensive environment. This behavior can manifest through physical, verbal, or nonverbal actions. The present study analyzes the relationship between political orientation (left-wing, center, and right-wing) and attitudes toward SH with a focus on the moderating role of gender.
