Inhibiting the shuttle of polysulfides is of great significance for promoting the practical application of lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs). Here, an imine-linked covalent organic framework@carbon nanotube (COF@CNT) interlayer composed of triazine and boroxine rings is constructed between the sulfur cathode and the separator for polysulfides reception and reutilization. The introduction of CNT imparts the conductor characteristic to the interlayer attributed to electron tunneling in thin COF shell, and creates a hierarchical porous architecture for accommodating polysulfides. The uniform distribution of amphiphilic adsorption sites in COF microporous structure not only enables efficient entrapment of polysulfides while allowing the penetration of Li ions, but also provides a stable electrocatalytic channel for bidirectional conversion of active sulfur to achieve the substantially improved capacity and stability. The interlayer-incorporated LSBs deliver an ultrahigh capacity of 1446 mA g at 0.1C and an ultralow capacity decay rate of 0.019% at 1C over 1500 cycles. Even at an electrolyte/sulfur ratio of 6 µL mg, an outstanding capacity of 995 mAh g and capacity retention of 74.1% over 200 cycles at 0.2C are obtained. This work offers a compelling polysulfides entrapment and reactivation strategy for stimulating the study on ultra-stable LSBs.

The alarming rise in global antimicrobial resistance underscores the urgent need for effective antibacterial drugs. Drawing inspiration from the bacterial-entrapment mechanism of human defensin 6, we have fabricated biomimetic peptide nanonets composed of multiple functional fragments for bacterial eradication. These biomimetic peptide nanonets are designed to address antimicrobial resistance challenges through a dual-approach strategy.

Department of Chemistry, National University of Singapore, 4 Science Drive 2, Singapore, 117544, Singapore.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers have developed a new method to control RNA structures and functions using redox-responsive elements, which are currently underutilized for activating "caged" RNAs.
  • The strategy involves adding disulfide-containing modifications to RNA to hinder its activity and shape, with these modifications easily removable through reducing conditions, allowing for reactivation.
  • This approach enables efficient cellular uptake and distribution of RNA without being trapped in lysosomes, offering a promising tool for labs working in RNA biology and various RNA applications.

Article Synopsis
  • Herpes zoster is caused by the reactivation of the varicella-zoster virus and often presents with pain and a vesicular rash, and it's been noted more frequently during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • The study focuses on creating a new gel formulation of Famciclovir using nanocochleates for enhanced treatment of herpes zoster infections, employing various methods to develop these lipid-based carriers.
  • Results showed the nanocochleate gel had a small particle size, high entrapment efficiency, and excellent stability, indicating its potential as an effective topical treatment for herpes zoster.
