Objective: To explore the influence of lipid metabolism on the risk of sarcopenia.

Methods: Two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis was used to determine causality. A total of 179 lipid metabolism data points were used for exposure, and the data were obtained from a plasma lipid metabolite study of 7174 participants. The total muscle mass and total muscle strength, as well as the muscle strength and muscle mass of different sex groups, were selected as the relevant traits of sarcopenia. Data for outcomes were obtained from the UK Biobank, and sample sizes ranged from 135 468 to 450 243. Inverse-variance weighted (IVW), as the main method for evaluating the causal relationship between lipid metabolites and sarcopenia, uses the false discovery rate (FDR) for multiple comparisons and conducts heterogeneity, pleiotropy, and reverse causality tests.

Results: Twenty-seven lipid metabolites, mainly phosphatidylcholine, phosphatidylethanolamine, ceramide, triacylglycerol, sphingomyelin, and sterol ester, were found to be associated with the risk of sarcopenia. Ceramide (d40:1), ceramide (d40:2), and sterol ester are risk factors for decreased muscle mass and strength. There is a positive causal relationship between various phosphatidylcholine lipids and muscle mass and strength. Sphingomyelin (d42:2) is a protective factor for total muscle strength and female muscle strength. There are inconsistent effects between different lipid metabolites, triacylglycerol, and muscle strength and muscle mass.

Conclusions: There was a causal relationship between 27 lipid metabolites and sarcopenia traits, and targeting specific lipid metabolites may benefit sarcopenia diagnosis, disease assessment, and treatment.

This study aimed to investigate the potential hypoglycemic mechanism of red ginseng acidic polysaccharides (RGAP) from the perspective of fatty acid (FA) regulation. A high-glucose/high-fat diet in conjunction with streptozotocin administration was employed to establish type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rat models, and their fecal FAs were detected using the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) method. RGAP treatment alleviated the polyphagia, polydipsia, weight loss, and hyperglycemia observed in T2DM rats.

Aerobic exercise (AE) has been shown to offer significant benefits for Alzheimer's disease (AD), potentially influencing the gut microbiota. However, the impact of changes in intestinal flora in early Alzheimer's disease induced by aerobic exercise on metabolic pathways and metabolites is not well understood. In this study, 3-month-old APP/PS1 and C57BL/6 mice were divided into two groups each: a control group (ADC for APP/PS1 and WTC for C57BL/6) and an aerobic exercise group (ADE for APP/PS1 and WTE for C57BL/6).

BuShao Tiaozhi Capsule (BSTZC), a novel drug in China, has been used to treat hyperlipidemia (HLP) in clinical practice for many years. Despite our previous studies suggesting that BSTZC can treat HLP, there is a lack of a rapid and systematic method to explore its active components. Therefore, in this study, we aimed to investigate the active components and mechanisms of BSTZC in treating HLP by integrating serum pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, network analysis, and experimental validation.

Background: Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage (aSAH) causes systemic changes that contribute to delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI) and morbidity. Circulating metabolites reflecting underlying pathophysiological mechanisms warrant investigation as biomarker candidates.

Methods: Blood samples, prospectively collected within 24 hours (T1) of admission and 7-days (T2) post ictus, from patients with acute aSAH from two tertiary care centers were retrospectively analyzed.

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the antibacterial efficacy of probiotic-derived cell-free supernatants (CFS) encapsulated within nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) against multidrug-resistant and . Additionally, it aimed to identify specific bioactive compounds that contribute to the reported antibacterial properties by characterizing the metabolite substances present in the CFS using a metabolomic analysis technique.

Methods: Eight strains of lactic acid bacteria including (L22F and L25F), (P72N, BF9, BF 14, BYF 20 and BYF 26) and (BF 12) were selected as probiotic candidates.
