A rabbit showing natural centrosphere-immunoreactivity was immunized with streptococcus pyogenes type 24 (S 24). During the immunization, an additional NOR-immunoreactivity appeared. This reactivity was not inhibited after the serum absorption by S 24 and seems fortuitous. The simultaneous immunoperoxidase technique staining centrosphere and NOR is described and illustrated during successive phases of mitosis. Unique as of this date, this serum may serve as a useful tool to study the centrosphere and NOR.

To further the development of an in vitro model which faithfully recapitulates drug disposition of orally administered drugs, we investigated the utility of human enteroid monolayers to simultaneously assess intestinal drug absorption and first-pass metabolism processes. We cultured human enteroid monolayers from three donors, derived via biopsies containing duodenal stem cells that were propagated and then differentiated atop permeable Transwell® inserts, and confirmed transformation into a largely enterocyte population via RNA-seq analysis and immunocytochemical (ICC) assays. Proper cell morphology was assessed and confirmed via bright field microscopy and ICC imaging of tight junction proteins and other apically and basolaterally localized proteins.

Gallbladder cancer (GBC) is an uncommon malignancy that is highly aggressive in the advanced stages. However, it rarely metastasizes to the mandible. Numb chin syndrome (NCS) is a rare neurological manifestation associated with various underlying causes, including occult primary cancers and distant metastases.

Enhancing Cervical Cancer Screening: Review of p16/Ki-67 Dual Staining as a Promising Triage Strategy.

Diagnostics (Basel)

February 2024

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Korea University Ansan Hospital, Ansan-si 15355, Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea.

Article Synopsis
  • - Cervical cancer is mainly caused by high-risk HPV types 16 and 18, which can lead to invasive cancer from precancerous lesions due to the activity of HPV genes E6 and E7.
  • - The review focuses on the p16/Ki-67 dual-staining cytology method as a more specific screening tool for HPV-positive women, highlighting its advantages over traditional methods in detecting CIN2+ lesions.
  • - While dual staining shows high sensitivity and negative predictive value, its low specificity raises concerns about false positives and unnecessary biopsies, indicating the need for updated guidelines and further research in screening practices.

Clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)-associated 9 (Cas9) system is the most efficient and widely used technology for genome editing in all sorts of organisms, including livestock animals. Here, we examined the feasibility of CRISPR/Cas9-derived genome editing (GE) in vitrified porcine zygotes, where the flexible planning of experiments in time and space is expected. OCT4 and CD46 genes were targeted, and the Cas9/sgRNA ribonucleoprotein complexes (RNP) were electroporated into zygotes at 2 h after warming.

Simultaneous multilineage hematologic malignancies are uncommon and associated with poorer prognosis than single-lineage leukemia or lymphoma. Here, we describe a concomitant malignant neoplasm in a 4-year-old boy. The child presented with massive lymphoproliferative syndrome, nasal breathing difficulties, and snoring.
